Paris:
Eugenie Bouchard became the first Canadian woman to reach the French Open semi-finals on Tuesday when she defeated Spanish 15th seed Carla Suarez Navarro 7-6 (7/4), 2-6, 7-5.
The 20-year-old from Montreal qualifies for her second straight Grand Slam semi-final after losing to Li Na of China in the last four of the Australian Open.
The only other Canadian woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final was Carling Bassett at the US Open in 1984.
Bouchard will now play Russia's 2012 champion Maria Sharapova for a place in Saturday's final.

Sharapova defeated Suarez Navarro's doubles' partner Garbine Muguruza 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 to reach her fourth straight French Open semi-final.
