Bhupathi-Knowles in semis of Rome event

Mahesh Bhupathi-Mark Knowles quelled a late challenge from Fyrstenberg-Matkowski to reach the semi-finals of the Internazionali BNL D'Italia ATP event.

Rome:

Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles quelled a late challenge from Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski to reach the semi-finals of the euro 2,750,000 Internazionali BNL D'Italia ATP event here on Friday.

The fourth-seeded Indo-Bahamian pair edged past the sixth seeded rivals 6-3, 6-4 in the quarter-finals in just 59 minutes.

Bhupathi and Knowles not only saved one breakpoint in the first set but also converted the one and only chance to take the lead.

In the second set they dropped their serve once but managed to break their rivals twice and pocket the match in their favour.

They will next face winners of the match between Jeff Coetzee/Jordan Kerr and Daniel Nestor/Nenad Zimonjic.
