22-year-old Sift Kaur Samra calls herself an “accidental shooter”, having left behind an MBBS degree in order to pursue her career. However, her results have been far from an accident.
After winning a bronze in women’s 50m rifle 3 pistols in her first appearance at the ISSF World Cup, Sift decided to choose shooting over becoming a doctor. She hasn’t looked back since.
Sift went on to smash the world record at the 2023 Asian Games, clinching gold in the women’s 50m rifle 3 pistols. She beat second place by an enormous 7.3 points.
In Paris 2024, Sift will be appearing at her first Olympic Games.
