The Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games has reiterated its commitment to protect clean athletes and promoting clean sport after the publication of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Independent Commission report into allegations of widespread doping in sport.
Rio 2016's executive director of communications Mario Andrada said: "The Rio 2016 Organizing Committee will do its utmost to guarantee clean Games. We will work with the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee and International Association of Athletics Federations to protect clean athletes."
The main focus of the newly-released report was on Russian athletes and sport-related institutions, and the world athletics governing body IAAF would consider sanctions against the Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), reports Xinhua.
These sanctions could include provisional and full suspension, which could potentially result in their omission from the Rio Olympics and Paralympics.
