Car signed by IPL captains auctioned for over Rs 30 lacs

A Volkswagen Passat car sporting signatures of all captains of the 10 IPL teams has fetched a record over Rs 30 lacs in a charity auction that would benefit WWF India.
The signature German luxury car has been snapped up by Banglore cricket enthusiast Saidas Malladi whose winning bid of Rs 30.13 lacs topped a total of 26 bids from across India in the auction that is said to be the priciest ever transcation conducted by eBay India till date, according to a statement by the ecommerce marketplace on Tuesday.
The 10-day auction that began on May 3, 2011 has surpassed previous milestones of the "Rakesh Jhunjhunwala", "Coaching Camp with Sachin Tendulkar" and "Lunch with Amitabh Bachchan" charity auction, with highest bid records at Rs 14.02 lacs, Rs 12 lacs and Rs 10.02 lacs respectively.
"The eBay India's charity platform is aimed at benefitting all Indian NGOs and socially responsible corporate who want to auction celebrity memorabilia, sell products or collect donations for a good cause," Deepa Thomas, Senior Manager - Pop Culture, eBay India.
The exclusive auction for the Passat autographed by captains of the T20 teams and accompanied with a similarly autographed bat was witnessed by over 17,000 visitors and the proceeds is set to go to conservation organisation WWF India.
The organisation is dedicated to building a healthy living planet for future generations by adopting a two-pronged approach to conservation which includes biodiversity conservation and footprint reduction.
