Punjab Kings registered a convincing win over defending champions Mumbai Indians on Friday and broke their three-match losing streak in IPL 2021. Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta, who is currently in quarantine, was delighted with how the team played and put up a "dominant performance" to beat the record IPL champions on a difficult batting track in Chennai. After KL Rahul-led side marched to their second win of the season, the Bollywood actor took to Twitter and congratulated the players for their "team work". She also highlighted how the win lit up her mood and gave her "something to celebrate" in quarantine.
"Finally something to celebrate in my quarantine as it's pretty tough to stay locked up in a room without a window for a week," Preity Zinta tweeted after the match.
"Tonight was all about team work & it was awesome to see such a strong & dominant performance from the boys #PBKSvsMI #ting @PunjabKingsIPL @klrahul11," she added.
Punjab Kings came into the match on the back of three straight defeats but it didn't affect their body language as they dominated the clash from start to end.
KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field and his bowlers proved his decision right as they restricted Mumbai Indians' strong batting line-up to 131 for six from their 20 overs. For Mumbai, skipper Rohit Sharma (63 off 52) and Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 27) were the only players who could withstand the challenge posed by Punjab's quality bowling on the night while others failed miserably.
In reply, Punjab Kings lost only one wicket and chased down the total with 14 balls to spare. KL Rahul led from front and scored yet another fifty, remaining unbeaten on 60 off 52 balls. Chris Gayle also played a sensible knock and scored 43 not out off 35 balls.
