Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by nine runs at Eden Gardens to sit atop the IPL points table on Saturday. Losing wickets at regular intervals, Kolkata couldn't get their momentum going and hence fell short of runs in the last over. Since 2013, this will be their first defeat at Eden Gardens while chasing. For Kolkata, Manish Pandey scored the highest (33) and for Mumbai, Hardik Pandya finished with the figures of 2 for 22 in his four overs. Despite the loss, due to better net run-rate, Kolkata have qualified for the play-offs.

Man of the Match, Ambati Rayudu says that it was a tough time coming back from injury. Mentions that he was waiting for his opportunity and he is glad that he performed well. Reckons that they had a target of around 160 in mind when he was batting out there in the middle. Adds that he told Saurabh Tiwary to not make him run 30 yards every ball as he is not used to it. Feels that they still have some areas to work on and hopefully they will step up and perform well in the knockouts.

Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma says that they wanted to finish on the top of the table. Adds that they played good cricket and that is exactly what they spoke about in the dressing room. Credits the guys who came in and stepped up when called for. Reckons that constant wickets kept them in the game as Kolkata at one moment were cruising at 10 runs per over. Mentions that the guys executed the plans well and that helped them win. Reckons that one part of the tournament is done and now they need to focus on the second part.

Kolkata skipper, Gautam Gambhir feels that they thought it was a chaseable score but they did not bat sensibly. Rues the fact that they were irresponsible with the bat. He exclaims that at one point he felt that they were wanting to chase it down inside ten overs. Further adds that since they were one batsman short, they needed someone to take responsibility. He feels that had a batsman stayed till the end, they would have won as they can't expect bowlers to win them games with the required run rate over 9. Credits his bowlers for bowling well on this deck and keeping Mumbai in check in the first innings. Admits that they need to pull their socks up and cannot bat like this going into the playoffs.

Sunil Narine fell cheaply and none of the other top-order batsmen gave Lynn company in the middle as everybody played their shots too early and perished. Manish Pandey held one end up but once Lynn departed, he too was running out of partners. It needed sensible batting but the hosts crumbled under pressure. Hardik Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he kept the required run-rate in check and also managed to pick up two wickets to see his side through. The win though ensured Mumbai got top spot and Kolkata qualified for the knockouts.

Mumbai have got another win under their belt and secured their place on the top of the table. After being put into bat, the two inclusions - Rayudu and Tiwary played crucial knocks for the visitors and helped them post a more than competitive total on the board. Kolkata had never lost a chase since 2013 at home and it looked like they might run away with this one too with their powerful batting line-up.
