Jayden Lennox is New Zealand's latest and one of their oldest debutants. Just 31, the left-arm spinner has played 54 List A matches for Central Districts, taking 69 wickets at an economy rate of 4.86. He has also played 21 First Class and 45 T20 matches, with a combined 108 wickets in those format.

Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull, who is part of the commentary team, feels the visitors missed a trick at the toss. He feels that the Kiwis should've batted first.
"I am not happy with the call. I think New Zealand should've made the most of it and must've batted first."

New Zealand have won the toss and they have opted to bowl. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both gear up for the match in Rajkot. While Rohit was seen inspecting the pitch, Virat faced throw-downs with the toss about to take place in some time.

Virat Kohli is just one big knock away from achieving a new height among Indian batters. He has struck five successive fifty-plus scores in ODI cricket so far, keeping the streak which started during the final ODI against Australia at Sydney alive during the first ODI. Currently, it is Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, who are level with the Indian icon with five successive ODI fifty-plus scores. Another half-century would make him the first Indian batter with six successive fifty-plus ODI scores.

Shreyas Iyer is on the verge of surpassing Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli to claim a sensational record. Iyer, who made his comeback to international cricket after a prolonged absence due to injury, has 2966 runs from 68 innings in ODI cricket at an average of 47.83. He needs just 34 runs to become the fastest Indian batter to reach the 3000-run milestone in the format. The record currently belongs to Dhawan who achieved the feat in 72 innings.

The third pacer slot has also been in focus lately with many experts asking for Arshdeep Singh to be included in the playing XI. Prasidh Krishna played in the first ODI encounter alongside Mohammed Siraj and Harshit Rana but his performance was not impressive.

Gautam Gambhir faced a lot of criticism from former India skipper Kris Srikkanth over the decision to include Ayush Badoni in the squad. "Out of Axar (Patel), Badoni, Nitish Reddy, and (Ruturaj) Gaikwad, which two must really be in the team? Badoni played at LSG and he (Gambhir) was the mentor there. I don't see any other reason. What else can it be? On what basis? You should have some sense in selection," Srikkanth said

Washington Sundar was ruled out of the ODI series due to injury and Ayush Badoni joined the India squad as his replacement. The team management will have a huge selection call to make between Badoni and Nitish Kumar Reddy in the 2nd ODI.
