Proteas trump the Lankans in a 14-over cracker
In a rain truncated match of seven over per side at Hambantota, South Africa pipped Sri Lanka by 32 runs.
South Africa lost Richard levi in the first over itself, courtesy a blinder of a catch by Dilshan Munaweera.
Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis upped the momentum for South Africa. But it was AB de Villiers who took the game away from Sri Lanka with a 15-ball 30.
Sri Lanka started the chase in similar fashion and lost Tillekeratne Dilshan in the very first over.
Kumar Sangakkara tried to force things as he tried to forge a partnership after the loss of Mahela Jayawardene.
Dilshan Munaweera fell while trying to accelerate, but an asking rate of more than 12 runs per over was always difficult to handle.
It was an inconsequential match as far as the result is concerned since both teams are now in Super 8 stage. Nonetheless, a win will keep the South Africans on a high.
