Defending champions Punjab Police, Punjab and Sindh Bank, and Border Security Force (Jalandhar) registered contrasting wins in quarter-final league matches of the 108th All India Beighton Cup hockey tournament. Star-studded Punjab Police withstood a strong second half fightback from Bombay XI to finish on the right side of a 3-2 scoreline, while Punjab and Sindh Bank blanked Central Reserve Police Force 3-0. BSF rode on an opening half field strike from Marinus Lakra to edge past Air India 1-0, while in the other outing of the day Army XI prevailed over Indian Oil 4-2 in their quarter-final lung-openers.
