San Francisco:
Tiger Woods won the WGC-American Express Championship on Sunday, after John Daly missed a short putt at the second hole of a sudden death play-off at Harding Park in San Francisco.
After both Daly and Woods had finished four rounds level at 10-under, the first extra hole was halved.
Daly missed an 18-foot putt for the title at the next play-off hole, and then saw the return clip the edge and stay out, handing victory to Woods.
Colin Montgomerie, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson finished in a share of third place at eight-under.
Montgomerie missed a number of birdie chances on the back nine before eventually holing from 12 feet on the 17th to lie just one shot off the lead.
While Woods birdied the 16th, Daly faltered with a bogey at the par-three 17th, leaving them level at 10-under with both having just the 18th to play.
Woods' birdie effort went just right of the hole, and he had to settle for par to finish at 10-under for the tournament.
Daly had an almost identical putt for a birdie three, which would have won him the title. (AP)
