Cricketer Makhaya Ntini and golfer Ernie Els have been chosen as ambassadors for the South Africa Olympic team.

Johannesburg:

Ernie Els has been chosen as an ambassador for the South Africa Olympic team.

Els was named on Wednesday as one of five ambassadors "to inspire and mentor" athletes as South Africa's Olympic committee marked the 100-day countdown to the London Games with a live TV broadcast.

Rugby sevens player Cecil Afrika, retired footballer Lucas Radebe, former international cricketer Makhaya Ntini and Aids campaigner Cynthia Tshaka were also chosen because of their work promoting sport.

Els, who missed qualifying for the Masters this year for the first time since 1993, could represent South Africa at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where golf returns to the Summer Games.

Rugby sevens will also be in Rio.
