"Don't wake me up." That's what Anirban Lahiri said when asked about his dream year on the greens. Since the start of 2014, the Bangalore golfer has won 2 European and 2 Asian Tour events and has been in red hot form. This week, Anirban tees off at the US Open, his 2nd major of the year by virtue of being in the World's top-50.
Not only a dream year, but it's been a year of many firsts for Anirban too. The 28-year old got eight starts on the PGA Tour over the last couple of weeks, the ultimate dream for any professional golfer. Till now the only Indian to have qualified and won on the PGA Tour has been Arjun Atwal.
World No.45 Anirban may be playing his 1st US Open but it's his 2nd major of the year, having finished tied for 49th place at the Augusta Masters in April. And it will be quite the year for Lahiri if he manages to hang on to a World's top-50 ranking in a bid to qualify for the British Open and the PGA Championship in 2015.
So what's in store for Anirban this week? The current Asian Tour Order of merit winner has been paired with American golfer Ryan Moore and Norwegian-American golfer Erik Compton for the opening two rounds.
Fellow Indian Shiv Kapur joins Anirban as the other Indian at the year's 2nd Major. Kapur finished 2nd in the qualifying tournament for the US open in England in May. Here's hoping for a good finish from the 2 Indians in golf's top playing field in the world.
