Houston:
Chad Campbell finished with a 10-under 61 on Saturday at the Champions Golf Club, setting the course and tournament record while taking a one-stroke lead.
The 29-year-old from West Texas will be in the final pairing for the first time since the PGA Championship.
Charles Howell III shot his third straight 67, to lie second one stroke behind.
The focus at the start of the PGA Tour's final tournament was on Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods, who were battling for the money title and PGA Tour player of the year, along with Masters champion Mike Weir and Davis Love III.
Singh got to within four shots of the lead, but wound up with a 67 and was in ninth place, eight strokes behind. Singh all but sealed the Tour money list title when Woods failed to move up the leaderboard.
Woods' four-year reign atop the PGA Tour money list essentially came to an end
when he missed four putts inside 10 feet - one of them for eagle - and finished with an even-par 71 to wind up 11 shots out of the lead.
Darren Clarke shot a 67 and was tied with US Open Champion Jim Furyk and Chris DiMarco at 4-under par.
Love still has an outside shot of winning. He had another 67 on Saturday but was still seven shots behind.
Chris Riley had a 66 to linger three strokes behind at 10-under 203, tied with Retief Goosen in third place.
Goosen, coming off a victory last week at Innisbrook, had his second consecutive 67. (AP)
