Nicole Castrale used a string of birdies on the closing holes to post a career-best 64 and take a two-shot lead over Cristie Kerr and Pat Hurst at LPGA Championship.Sixteen year-old Michelle Wie missed six putts inside 12-feet on the first eight holes Thursday.She was one-under 71, leaving her seven shots behind Castrale.Three-time defending champion Annika Sorenstam was also at 71 after her opening round that included four birdies and three bogeys.On a day when 24 players shot in the 60s, Sorenstam and Wie, easily the biggest draws at the tournament, both finished at one-under 71 after the first round of the LPGA tour.Sorenstam, who has not won since her 2006 debut, was among 20 players tied for 41st place after her round of 1-under par on Thursday.Wie failedDone in by her putter, Wie failed to qualify for the men's US Open on Monday.She missed six putts inside 12 feet on the first eight holes, taking double bogey at number 5. Her three birdies came inside three feet, including a two-putt birdie on the 15th.Mi Hyun Kim birdied the ninth hole en route to a round of four-under par 68, four strokes behind Nicole Castrale.The group of three players at five-under par 67 included South Korean rookie Seon Hwa Lee, coming off her first LPGA Tour victory last week at the ShopRite Classic, Christina Kim and Dorothy Delasin, who played with Wie.Kerr carded five birdies, an eagle and one bogey to card a round of sxi-under 66 and was tied for second with Hurst.Castrale started on number 10, and she played her second nine solidly to keep bogeys off her card and make her a surprising leader in the second major championship of the year.She picked up three of her birdies from inside 100 yards, including her string on the back nine.
