Sebastian Vettel's celebrations cost Red Bull 25,000 euros
Sebastian Vettel took the chequered flag in first position and instead of returning to the pit lane, went to the main straight to entertain the grandstand crowd with his tyre-smoking, donut display after the race.
Sebastian Vettel's post-race celebrations after winning the Indian Grand Prix cost him a reprimand and his team Red Bull a fine of 25,000 euros at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) here on Sunday. (Race report)
The German driver took the chequered flag in first position and instead of returning to the pit lane, went to the main straight to entertain the grandstand crowd with his tyre-smoking, donut display after the race.
The FIA stewards called him to explain his actions and later reprimanded him and fined the team. (Also read: India bullish on F1 return)
"The driver failed to proceed directly to the post-race parc ferme as detailed under article 43.3 of the FIA Formula 1 Sporting Regulations. Due to the special circumstance the stewards accepted the explanation of the driver. The team failed to instruct the driver sufficiently to return directly to post-race parc ferme," said an FIA statement.
Vettel and Red Bull clinched the fourth drivers' as well as the constructors' World Championships here Sunday.
