Cash-strapped Lotus on Sunday extended Pastor Maldonado's deal to drive with the team in 2016 despite his modest record over the last two years.
The Venezuelan driver is believed to bring around £30 million (41 million euros) a season to the team courtesy of his lucrative deal with oil giants PDVSA.
"It's great that the team can confirm my position as race driver for 2016," said Maldonado.
"Obviously, there has been a lot of speculation about the future and whilst I have remained focused on my job on track it is also positive to know that my future is confirmed."
Maldonado drove for Williams from 2011-2013 scoring a surprise victory at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2012.
In two seasons at Lotus, he scored just two points in 2014 and has 12 points so far this campaign.
He is in 14th place in the championship but 26 points behind French teammate Romain Grosjean.
On Sunday, he was 12th at the Singapore Grand Prix.
