Villarreal defeated new Spanish champions Valencia 2-1 in the Spanish league on Friday.

Sonny Anderson and Juan Roman Riquelme scored first-half goals as Villarreal defeated new Spanish champions Valencia 2-1 in the Spanish league on Friday. Valencia, who clinched the league title for the second time in three seasons last weekend, played with several reserve players and lost for the first time in 11 games. The match was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of Atletico Madrid owner and former president Jesus Gil who died earlier on Friday. (AP)
