Velez Sarsfield ended Estudiantes' faint hopes of winning the Argentine Apertura Championship with a 2-0 win away to their rivals on Sunday.

Velez Sarsfield ended Estudiantes' faint hopes of winning the Argentine Apertura Championship with a 2-0 win away to their rivals on Sunday. Goals from Fabian Cubero and Marcelo Bravo mean that Velez are three points behind leaders Newell's Old Boys with one game to play. Estudiantes are now out of the running. They're in fourth place, six points behind Newell's. Next week, Velez entertain Arsenal while Newell's travel to Buenos Aires to face Independiente. If Newell's avoid defeat they will be champions, whatever the result of the Velez match.
