In their final warm-up game on American soil ahead of the World Cup, the United States defeated Latvia one-nil on Sunday in East Hartford, Connecticut. Brian McBride, who plays for Fullham in the Premiership in England, took a blow to the head as he and Latvian defender Genadjis Soloncins challenged for a ball in the 18th minute before the US created the first real chance after 29 minutes. From the right side, Steve Cherundolo crossed to an unmarked Landon Donovan, but his header was saved by Latvian keeper Aleksandrs Kolinko in the 29th minute. However, the deadlock was broken two minutes before half-time. McBride scored from six yards out - meeting another pinpoint cross from Steve Cherundolo in the 43rd minute. (AP)
