Tignes:
France defender Pascal Chimbonda is confident he will join Tottenham by the end of next week. Chimbonda plays for Wigan and is training with France's national team for the World Cup. He said he dreamed of joining Manchester United but that Tottenham is his likely destination. "As a footballer you always want to play at the highest level, and moving to Tottenham will help me take the next step forward," Chimbonda said. "If I quit Wigan it's to go as far as possible in the game". Wigan, which signed Chimbonda from French club Bastia a year ago, seems resigned to losing him and wants at least six million pounds. France coach Raymond Domenech wants all transfers settled before the squad heads to Germany on June 8. "I think it will be settled on the rest days (next Friday or Saturday) if all goes to plan," Chimbonda said. "I haven't spoken to Tottenham, but my agent has". Chimbonda has been one of the best players of Wigan's impressive first season in the top flight, finishing 10th in the Premier League and reaching the League Cup final. He was voted the best right-sided fullback by his fellow professionals. (AP)Topics mentioned in this article
