The managing director of Newcastle has resigned, one day after the Premier League club appointed Joe Kinnear as director of football.
Derek Llambias says in a statement on Wednesday that he is stepping down with immediate effect after "an incredible journey during my five years at the club." He didn't give any reasons for his decision.
Kinnear, who managed Newcastle in 2008-09, was officially hired by the northeast club on Tuesday to take charge of "all football-related matters," reporting directly to owner Mike Ashley and having more power than manager Alan Pardew.
