Newcastle has appealed Lee Bowyer's red card, which sparked a brawl during Monday's 2-0 loss at Liverpool at Anfield. Bowyer was sent off for a foul on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, the challenge leading to several players - including rival captains Steven Gerrard and Alan Shearer - pushing and shoving each other. The Football Association said Wednesday that Newcastle had lodged a claim for wrongful dismissal. His appeal will be heard by a disciplinary committee on Thursday. (AP)
