London:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Juan Sebastian Veron scored early to give Manchester United to a 3-0 victory on Saturday over West Ham, pulling the Reds level on points with league-leading Arsenal. Chelsea failed to grab the outright lead in England, managing only a 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on a tying goal late in the first half by John Terry. Manchester United's victory moved the Reds even with Arsenal on 35 points - but with a poorer goal-difference - with Chelsea inching up to 34. Everton got the winner from 17-year-old Wayne Rooney in the 25th minute and defeated Blackburn 2-1, a victory that moved the Toffies into fourth place with 32 points - one ahead of archrival Liverpool. Newcastle and Southampton battled to a 1-1 draw, a valuable point that moved the Magpies into sixth place behind Liverpool with 29 points. The bottom of the Premier League standings stayed the same with West Ham in last place with only 13 points in 18 games. Sunderland has 14 topped by Bolton (14), West Brom (15) and Leeds (17). Aston Villa, playing with only 10 men, got a second-half injury-time goal from Tomas Hitzlsperger to beat West Brom 2-1 in the derby in central England. The loss of a valuable point could come back to haunt the struggling Baggies. Saturday scores: Aston Villa 2, West Bromwich Albion 1; Charlton 2, Manchester City 2; Everton 2, Blackburn 1; Manchester United 3, West Ham 0; Middlesbrough 1, Chelsea 1; Southampton 1, Newcastle 1.
