Liga de Quito tops Caracas 3-1

Orlindo Ayovi and Patricio Urrutia scored first-half goals and Liga de Quito topped Caracas FC 3-1 on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores.

Orlindo Ayovi and Patricio Urrutia scored first-half goals and Liga de Quito topped Caracas FC 3-1 on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores, a meaningless game for both sides.

Caracas already had been assured of advancing and Liga already had been eliminated.

Orlindo Ayovi gave Liga the lead in the 23rd minute, and Urrutia added his goal on a free kick in the 40th.

Joffre Guerron increased Liga's lead in the 56th minute. Caracas finally replied with a goal by Cesar Gonzalez in the 62nd.

Caracas finished with nine points, behind Colo Colo on goal difference in Group 6.

The victory left Liga with eight points, just ahead of River Plate on goal difference.

The match was played in the Casablanca Stadium 2,800 meters (9,000 feet) above sea level in Quito.
