Porto Alegre:

Brazil's Internacional overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat Mexico's UNAM Pumas 3-2 in Group 6 of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday. Internacional has ten points, three more than Uruguay's Nacional and five more than Venezuela's Maracaibo. Pumas is last with zero points. All teams have played four matches each. The result kept alive Internacional's 10-match winning streak at Beira-Rio stadium, and practically secured the three-time Brazilian champion in the second round of the Latin American competition. The top two teams from each group advance to the round of 16. Taking lead Midfielder Gerardo Galindo put Pumas ahead in the third minute with a firm shot from inside the area, and striker Joaquin Botero added to the lead with a low free kick shot in the 34th. Striker Michel scored Internacional's first goal in the 36th, finding the open net from about two meters after a cross into the area. Fernandao equalised from close range in the 53rd after Pumas goalkeeper Sergio Bernal failed to hold on to a cross, and Adriano, who entered the match in the 66th, netted the winner with a header from inside the box. Pumas defender Israel Castro was sent off in the 83rd after a hard foul on Internacional midfielder Marcio Mossoro. Rested players Pumas, which has lost all of its matches in this year's Copa Libertadores, rested some of its regular starters for the Mexican Clausura tournament. These included star midfielder Leandro Augusto and defenders Joaquin Beltran and Dario Veron. Internacional coach Abel Braga also rested his starters in the team's 1-0 win over Novo Hamburgo on Sunday. The result qualified the club for the finals of the Rio Grande do Sul state championship. The Brazilian club is unbeaten in its last 15 matches. Its last loss was against Ulbra on January 25 in the Rio Grande do Sul tournament. In the next round, Pumas visits Maracaibo on March 30, while Internacional plays at Nacional on April 4. (AP)
