Milan, Italy:

AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini has a left knee injury and could miss both legs of the Champions League quarterfinals against Bayern Munich. Following an initial medical exam Monday, surgery was ruled out. More medical tests are planned for later in the week. The 38-year-old Maldini wants to avoid surgery because he fears it could end his career. Maldini was hurt in Sunday's derby loss to Inter Milan. The games against Bayern are scheduled for April 3 and 11.
