Fan shot in Argentine derby

A supporter of Racing Club was shot during a fight with fans of bitter local Buenos Aires rivals Independiente on Sunday, police said.

A supporter of Racing Club was shot during a fight with fans of bitter local Buenos Aires rivals Independiente on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place close to Racing's ground in the run-up to the local derby where 1,200 police were on duty.

Police said that the wounded man was not seriously hurt while the gunman had escaped.

According to the 'Save Football' organisation, three fans have been killed in football-related violence in Argentina in 2011.
