Manchester:

England's post Sven Goran Eriksson and David Beckham era began on a bright note with England thrashing European Champions Greece 4-0 in an international friendly at Old Trafford in Manchester. The game was the first in charge for new coach Steve McClaren who officially took over from the Swede on August 1. John Terry marked his first match as captain by scoring the opening goal before his Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard added the second. Liverpool's 6ft 7-inch striker Peter Crouch added two more as England raced into a 4-0 lead in the first 45 minutes itself. The new coach must be a happy man with the win coming without the services of the injured Michael Owen and suspended Wayne Rooney.
