London:
Former England soccer star Paul Gascoigne is expected to remain hospitalized with pneumonia for the rest of the week.
The 37-year-old former Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers and Everton midfielder was rushed to Princess Grace Hospital in central London on Friday.
"I spoke to him last night and his condition is improving," agent Alex Armitage said. "He is taking the course that the doctors expected and should be out of hospital by the end of the week."
Early reports suggested that Gascoigne had a collapsed lung. "He is only suffering with pneumonia, not the countless other things that have been rumored," Armitage said.
Gascoigne's career has been plagued by injuries and alcoholism. In October, he quit as player-manager of lower division side Boston United after two months in charge.
Gascoigne won 57 England caps, starring at the 1990 World Cup and Euro 96 tournaments. (AP)
