Fulham shook off their slumbers from 2012 to win 2-1 at West Bromwich Albion on New Year's Day and record only their second away win of the Premier League campaign.
The honour of scoring the first goal of 2013 fell to Dimitar Berbatov, who finished a sweeping Fulham counter-attack with a crisp strike in the 39th minute.
West Brom equalised four minutes into the second half through Romelu Lukaku and the hosts twice hit the post, before Alex Kacaniklic calmly beat Ben Foster in the 58th minute to give Martin Jol's side victory.
The win, Fulham's second in 13 league games, lifted them to 12th place in the English top flight and left Steve Clarke's West Brom in seventh.
Manchester United will look to preserve their seven-point lead at the top of the table when they visit Wigan Athletic later on Tuesday.
Second-place Manchester City begin the year at home to Stoke City, while Tottenham Hotspur can climb above Chelsea into third place if they win at home to second-bottom Reading.
Arsenal, 7-3 victors against Newcastle United on Saturday, visit Southampton in the evening kick-off.
