The All India Football Federation (AIFF) today announced that soft drinks major Coca Cola will be the title sponsor of NFL.

New Delhi:

Two weeks after the eighth National Football League (NFL) kicked off, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) today announced that soft drinks major Coca Cola will be the title sponsor of NFL. "To begin with we have signed an agreement for two years and later this will be extended till 2007," said Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, AIFF President. The NFL began with much fanfare when the inaugural edition was sponsored by Philips India. But slowly it went out of the corporate world's radar. But Dasmunsi added "there will be greater involvement (of the sponsor) in Indian soccer at the National and club level." He however, did not spell out the financial details of the contract saying "the amount is not important." Trying to defend the delay in finding a sponsor, Dasmunsi said "due to our extensive engagement with the Afro-Asian Games we could not sign the sponsor." Last year too AIFF struggled to find a sponsor for the seventh NFL before the Oil PSU's came forward to its rescue. (PTI)
