Santiago, Chile:
Chile held Argentina to a goalless draw in a fast, furious and full-blooded South American World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
Argentina's new coach Jose Pekerman, who fielded an unchanged team, went into the match in buoyant mood after his side's 4-2 win over Uruguay.
But Chile surprised their opponents by taking the initiative.
Goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri saved Argentina from a shock defeat with several good stops as his teammates were knocked out of their stride by hard-working and sometimes over-physical opponents.
The top four teams qualify for Germany while the fifth plays off against the Oceania region winners. (AP)
