Defender Juninho scored a 73rd-minute equalizer to help Botafogo draw Goias 1-1 and remain the only unbeaten team after the ninth round of the Brazilian league on Tuesday.
Also, defending champion Sao Paulo beat last year's runner-up Internacional behind a penalty kick goal by goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni.
Juninho's free kick powered low through the wall to beat Goias goalkeeper Harlei.
Botafogo, with a 6-3-0 record, was coming off three consecutive victories. It leads the competition with 21 points from nine matches, four points more than second-place Sao Paulo and five more than fourth-place Goias.
Defender Paulo Henrique put Goias ahead at Serra Dourada stadium in Goiania with a header from close range after a free kick cross by winger Paulo Baier.
Goias played a man down from the 19th after Paulo Henrique was sent off for a hard foul.
Botafogo was depleted in the 40th after defender Alex held Goias striker Welliton and received a red card.
At Morumbi stadium, Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni netted his fifth goal of the season and 73rd of his career with a penalty kick in the team's 1-0 win over Internacional. It was Sao Paulo's fourth consecutive match without allowing a goal.
