Bayern Munich's Spain midfielder Javi Martinez was on Saturday given the all clear after temporarily losing sight in his left eye in the 1-1 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Bundesliga. The 24-year-old suffered bruising to his left eyeball and injury to his cornea after clashing with Gladbach defender Martin Stranzl in mid air from a corner during the match at Munich's Allianz Arena on Friday. "He has a bruise and can't currently see out of his left eye," said coach Jupp Heynckes when asked about the injury after the game. Martinez had to come off 38 minutes after complaining of blurry vision, but an examination on Friday evening and a further check on Saturday morning gave him the all-clear from a Munich hospital. The Spain star was replaced by Swiss midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri who equalised for Bayern in the 59th minute after Thorben Marx had converted a first-half penalty for Gladbach. Martinez sat out training on Saturday, but will resume training Monday ahead of Bayern's German Cup match at Augsburg on Tuesday for a quarter-final place. Friday night's draw in Munich left Bayern 12 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga before Saturday and Sunday's remaining matches with the league set to break for winter after this weekend.
