Bayern Munich bounced back from a sluggish start with a strong second half to win its opening Champions League match 4-0 against Spartak Moscow on Tuesday. Claudio Pizarro scored the first goal in the 48th, Roque Santa Cruz padded the lead in the 52nd, Bastian Schweinsteiger notched the third in the 71st and Hasan Salihamidzic completed the victory in the 84th minute of the Group B match at the Allianz Arena. Spartak easily controlled the first half against a pale edition of Bayern, which failed to create a single scoring opportunity. The Russian team had two, with Roman Pavlyuchenko and Clemente Rodriguez coming close. Bayern was booed off the field after the first half by its disappointed fans, but then struck twice early in the second half. One of Bayern's first moves in the second half produced a goal. Pizarro collected a long pass from Willy Sagnol on the right, cut inside Spartak defender Martin Stranzl and slotted the ball inside the left post. Mark van Bommel provided the short pass for Santa Cruz on the edge of the penalty area and he broke free to score with a low shot to the far corner. Pizarro then narrowly missed from close range as Bayern tried to take advantage of its momentum. Moments after coming on for Pizarro, Salihamidzic provided the cross for Schweinsteiger's goal, with the ball taking a deflection off a Spartak defender. Schweinsteiger volleyed the ball past Wojciech Kowalewski in Spartak's goal. Salihamidzic got his goal after Lukas Podolski's shot at the Spartak goal following a misfortunate headed clearance by Geder. Salihamidzic diverted the ball in from close range. On the other side, Oliver Kahn made a stunning save to deny Vladimir Bystrov. Pavlyuchenko hit the crossbar late in the game. (AP)
