New Delhi:
Baichung Bhutia is back in the country for the world's second oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup.
Baichung is the only Indian footballer to play professional club soccer in England and his list of achievements is long and exhaustive.
East Bengal began the defence of their Durand Cup with a 3-2 win over Indian Bank in New Delhi's Ambedkar Stadium with star striker Baichung contributing two goals.
"It is good to be back but things have not changed. The second oldest football tournament in the world has lost its prestige. It is badly organised and not enough is done for the players," said Baichung.
For Baichung and East Bengal it has so far been a great year. Their victory in the ASEAN Cup in July was the first by an Indian Club in an international competition.
Apart from being the defending National Football League Champions, East Bengal picked up their 29th Kolkata Super League title over the weekend.
"Its been a good year so far but it can get better if we win the Durand Cup and also retain the National Football league," said Baichung.
