The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil gave the world of football many memorable moments that are etched in the minds of the fans. From Germany dismantling Brazil 7-1 in the semi-final to Clint Dempsey of the United States of America (USA) scoring the fastest goal of the tournament against Ghana, the 2014 World Cup had moments which one will never forget.

Brazil, being the host nation, started their campaign with a 3-1 win over Croatia and topped the Group A table with 7 points before being thrashed by Germany in the semi-final.

The later stages of the tournament saw Robin van Persie score with what was labelled as a gravity-defying header, in Netherlands' match against Spain that they won 5-1. In Group F, Bosnia-Herzegovina scored their first ever goal at a World Cup before going down to Argentina 2-1.

One of the highlights of the tournament was Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa's performance against Brazil when he denied the host nation of any goal, resulting in goalless draw.

The last 16 saw Brazil edge out Croatia on penalties. James Rodrigues scored a screamer to help Colombia beat Uruguay 2-0. Germany fought hard to register a 2-1 victory over Algeria in extra-time. Argentina and France beat Switzerland and Nigeria respectively. Tim Howard's performance hogged all the limelight of that round even though USA went down 1-2 against Belgium.

The quarter-final witnessed Germany end France's World Cup dreams while Brazil lost their star player Neymar to an injury while beating Colombia.

The Holland-Argentina match was the first goalless draw in a World Cup semi-final, which Argentina won on penalties.

Brazil faced Holland for the 3rd place and lost 0-3 with the latter completely outperforming them.

The final saw Mario Goetze become an overnight star after he scored a brilliant extra-time winner to help Germany beat Argentina 1-0 at the Maracana Stadium and lift the coveted trophy for the fourth time.
