India vs England 1st ODI LIVE Score Updates: Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have kept two-down India going in the chase of 259 runs against England in the first ODI of the three-match series in Birmingham. Rohit Sharma fell for 11 on the bowling of Sam Curran while Jofra Archer dismissed Virat Kohli on his individual score of 5. Earlier, India bowled out the hosts for 258 in 47.5 overs. The Three Lions were tottering at 107/6 at one stage, but a tremendous recovery was orchestrated by Joe Root (76 not out) and Liam Dawson (68), who stitched together a 121-run partnership. Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking a four-wicket haul. Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna took two wickets each. (Live Scorecard)

Here are the Live Updates of India vs England 1st ODI match, straight from Birmingham:

India vs England Live: India in control!

Shubman Gill is close to his half-century while Shreyas Iyer is also solid at the other end. India have kept things in control since the wicket of Virat Kohli. They need 170 runs from this point. The asking is around five, which must not be a matter of trouble.

IND 89-2 (17)

India vs England Live: FOUR!

Josh Tongue bowls a tad fuller and Shubman Gill plays an uppish drive for four through extra cover. The India captain moves to 39 off 37 balls with that shot. Five runs come off the over.

Jofra Archer returns to the attack and bowls a five-run over. He begins with a wide before conceding two singles and a couple. The duo of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill has added 27 runs off 33 balls for the third wicket.

IND 67-2 (12)

India vs England Live: FOUR from Iyer!

11.1 - This is a beautiful shot from Shreyas Iyer for four. Sam Curran bowls a fuller delivery outside off stump and Iyer drives it powerfully through extra cover for the boundary.

India vs England Live: End of Powerplay!

The first Powerplay ends here! India lost the veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli while scoring 56 runs in the phase. They need 203 more runs to win from the remaining 240 deliveries.

IND 56-2 (10)

India vs England Live: OUT! Kohli departs!

OUT! Jofra Archer removes Virat Kohli! He bowls a fuller delivery on the line of stumps and Kohli tries to flick it on the leg side. The number 3 batter misses the ball and gets caught plumb in front of the stumps. Umpire raises his finger over an LBW appeal and Kohli doesn't dare to challenge it.

Virat Kohli lbw b Jofra Archer 5(6) [4s-1]

IND 48-2 (8.3)

India vs England Live: OUT! Rohit is GONE!

Big blow! Rohit Sharma is GONE! He jumps out of his crease and tries to go inside-out but fails to time the ball well. Rohit ends up handing an easy catch to mid-off. Sam Curran provides England with a much-needed breakthrough.

Rohit Sharma c Harry Brook b Sam Curran 11(21) [4s-1]

IND 43-1 (7.3)

India vs England Live: Archer leaks runs!

Jofra Archer ends up leaking 11 runs in his fourth over. Rohit Sharma gets things started with a four. He plays a beautiful pick-up shot through square leg for the boundary. The Indian batters also take three twos and a single in the over.

IND 43-0 (7)

IND 32-0 (5.4)

India vs England Live: Three off the over!

Another economical over from Jofra Archer. He concedes only three runs in it. Shubman Gill plays all the deliveries of the over. As I type, Gill pulls Josh Tongue for a wonderful six to start the sixth over. The ball goes through the long-leg.

India vs England Live: Tight over!

Josh Tongue is economical this time. He concedes a single to Shubman Gill on the third delivery, and that turns out to be the only run in the over. Jofra Archer will bowl the next over. Is a wicket coming up?

IND 19-0 (4)

India vs England Live: Superb over from Archer!

Swing, pace, bounce! This over from Jofra Archer had everything to trouble Rohit Sharma. The veteran opener looked clueless as Archer breathed fire with the ball. India are chasing a modest total, but they need to preserve their wickets early on.

IND 18-0 (3)

India vs England Live: FOUR!

1.2 - Another good shot from Shubman Gill! Josh Tongue bowls it fuller and Gill hits it past mid-on for four. He beats the fielder to his right. This is turning out to be a good start for the India captain.

India vs England Live: FOUR from Shubman Gill!

First boundary for India! Jofra Archer bowls a fuller delivery around leg stump and Shubman Gill nonchalantly flicks it away for four. The fine leg fielder was positioned a bit squarer and failed to stop the ball.

IND 6-0 (1)

Jofra Archer begins with a fuller delivery down the leg stump to Rohit Sharma. Rohit misses his shot and umpire signalls it a wide.

India vs England Live: We are back!

We are back for India's chase! Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill walk out to the middle. The England players are taking their positions on the field. Jofra Archer will bowl the first over, with Rohit on strike.

India vs England LIVE: Will Axar Patel bat at No. 5?

It will be interesting to see whether Axar Patel comes out to bat at No. 5. Axar's usage at No. 5, ahead of KL Rahul, was a successful move made by Gautam Gambhir during India's victorious Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. However, with Axar being prioritised for T20Is over the last year, Rahul has returned to the No. 5 role. Let's see who bats there today!

India vs England LIVE: Can India chase down 258?

With the asking rate just over 5, this is certainly a gettable target for India. India have batting till No. 8 today, where Washington Sundar is likely to bat. A number of left-handers down the order in Axar, Dube and Washington, but the onus will fall first on the Top 5, which comprises right-handers Gill, Rohit, Kohli, Shreyas and Rahul.

India vs England LIVE: All eyes on Rohit, Kohli

The return of ODI action means the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Kohli has looked energetic in the field today, but can he continue his excellent run of form with bat in hand? Pressure will also be on Rohit, around whom speculation continues over form and fitness.

India vs England LIVE: "Should've gone after England more"

"India should've gone for the kill. Don't treat it as a 50 overs match, but a 40 overs match. Don't keep your best bowlers for the end, bring them in early, that's the gamble you go for as a captain," says former India head coach Ravi Shastri, speaking at the mid-innings break.

India vs England Live: England all out for 258!

Axar Patel cleans up Josh Tongue and that ends the England innings! The Three Lions have been bundled out for 258. Joe Root remains not out at score of 76, while Axar is the pick of the bowlers for India with figures of 4 for 62.

India vs England Live: Krishna ends with figures of 2/50!

Prasidh Krishna concedes seven runs in his final over. He is the first Indian bowler to complete his quota today. He finishes with figures of 2 for 50. It was an extremely economical start from Krishna, but he leaked runs as the innings progressed.

ENG 235-7 (45)

India vs England Live: OUT!

OUT! A lucky breakthrough for India! Liam Dawson departs after scoring 68 runs. Axar Patel bowls a short ball and the batter could have put it anywhere. Instead, Dawson pulls it into the hands of Rohit Sharma at deep backward square leg. The 121-run partnership has been broken.

Liam Dawson c Rohit Sharma b Axar Patel 68(83)

ENG 228-7 (44)

India vs England Live: FOUR!

Brilliant batting from Joe Root. He plays according to the field and earns a boundary for his team. Prasidh Krishna bowls a slower back-of-a-length delivery around off-stump. Root walks across and hits it wide of the short fine leg fielder for a four.

ENG 220-6 (42.3)

India vs England Live: Joe Root slams FIFTY!

Joe Root slams his half-century off 57 balls! The veteran England batter rises to the occasion with a superb knock under pressure. The Three Lions have made a brilliant recovery. They look set to cross 250.

ENG 211-6 (41.2)

India vs England Live: 200 up for England!

Joe Root slams Jasprit Bumrah for four. He gets a full toss and slams it through mid-wicket. With that shot, England bring up 200 runs. The batters steal three singles after that, with Root retaining the strike on 47.

ENG 203-6 (40)

India vs England Live: FIFTY for Liam Dawson!

A single to long-on. With it, Liam Dawson brings up his half-century off 65 balls! This has been a wonderful knock from the all-rounder. England found themselves in deep trouble after slipping to 107/6, but Dawson has provided perfect support to Root, taking his side to 190/6 in 38 overs. England still have 12 overs left in the innings.

India vs England Live: SIX from Liam Dawson!

Wow! This is a fantastic shot from Liam Dawson for six. Axar Patel pitches it up and the batter slog-sweeps it for a maximum. It goes just over Arshdeep Singh at deep mid-wicket. England are growing in confidence.

ENG 186-6 (36.4)

India vs England Live: Watch KL Rahul's catch -

KL Rahul took a one-handed stunner to dismiss Will Jacks on the fourth ball of the 22nd over. Watch the catch here:

ENG 159-6 (31.5)

India vs England Live: 150 up for England!

Axar Patel concedes seven runs in his over as England cross the 150-run mark. This is turning out to be a good seventh-wicket stand for England. The duo of Joe Root and Liam Dawson has added 43 runs off 56 balls so far.

ENG 150-6 (31)

India vs England Live: FOUR!

Wow! That is a good shot from Liam Dawson for a four. Prasidh Krishna bowls it fuller and the batter chips it through the mid-wicket region for a four. The boundary comes after five dot balls in the over.

ENG 143-6 (30)

India vs England Live: FOUR!

FOUR! That is a cheeky boundary for England after a long time. With no slip in place, Joe Root attempts a reverse scoop off the bowling of Axar Patel. He connects it well and beats the short third for a four.

ENG 127-6 (26.4)

India vs England Live: 25 overs done!

Four runs come off Gurnoor Brar's seventh over. Joe Root has a huge responsibility on his shoulders, but he would need an equally good support from Liam Dawson. The batters should focus more on strike rotation than looking for boundaries, and that is what they are doing at the moment.

ENG 117-6 (25)

India vs England Live: England's hopes pinned on Root!

Joe Root remains the last recognised England batter at the crease. The hosts are six down and they still have 27 overs left. The way the Indian bowlers have been bowling, England might fail to play out their full quota of overs. This is a good-bowling wicket but the Three Lions need at least a 200-plus total to stand a chance against India in this game.

ENG 110-6 (23)

India vs England Live: OUT! What a catch!

OUT! Oh, my goodness! KL Rahul takes a stunning catch to remove Will Jacks. England are six down! Shivam Dube bowls it outside off stump and Jacks gets an outside edge. The ball goes low to Rahul's right, but he stretches out his hand to take the catch.

ENG 107-6 (21.4)

India vs England Live: CATCH DROPPED!

Chance missed! Shivam Dube drops the catch of Joe Root on the third ball of the over! It is a return catch as Root chips the ball back to the bowler. However, Dube fails to hold on to it. How costly is this going to be for India?

ENG 93-5 (20)

India vs England Live: Tight over from Bumrah!

Jasprit Bumrah concedes only two runs in his seventh over. Shubman Gill has been spot on with his bowling changes today. England are truly under pressure. They cannot afford to lose another wicket at this point, as it would expose their tail.

ENG 82-5 (18)

India vs England Live: WICKET!

Another one goes down! Prasidh Krishna strikes for a second time in this over. Sam Curran throws his bat to the delivery going away and gets an ouside edge to the wicketkeeper. England are five down. They are in deep trouble.

ENG 80-5 (16.4)

India vs England Live: OUT! Buttler departs!

OUT! Shubman Gill and Gurnoor Brar converge but luckily avoid a serious injury. Jos Buttler gets a top edge off Prasidh Krishna's delivery. The ball lobs behind the stumps at the non-striker's end. Brar comes in from mid-on while Gill runs in from mid-off. The two players collide but somehow avoid any damage, with Brar taking the catch.

ENG 63-2 (12.4)

India vs England Live: OUT! First WICKET for India!

OUT! Gurnoor Brar strikes! He removes Jacob Bethell, who was struggling in the middle. It is a fiery short ball and the England opener miscues his pull. Maybe the extra bit of pace and bounce forced the mishit. Washington Sundar takes a good catch at deep square leg.

ENG 61-1 (12.2)

Till the end of the seventh over, England had just 20 runs on the board, with both Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna bowling extremely tight lines and lengths. Gurnoor Brar gets the eighth over and leaks 17 runs in it. Krishna follows with a five-run over before Brar gets hit for nine runs.

ENG 51-0 (10)

India vs England Live: Gill's tactic backfires!

The idea of India captain Shubman Gill to hand Gurnoor Brar an over backfires badly. Ben Duckett slams the pacer for a four and two sixes in the over that gives England seventeen runs. This takes off the pressure put on by Bumrah and Krishna.

ENG 37-0 (8)

India vs England Live: India keep England in check!

India have failed to get a wicket so far, but the duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna has made sure that they don't leak runs either. Gurnoor Brar is set to bowl the next over. The England openers are going to target him.

ENG 20-0 (7)

India vs England Live: Another tight over from Bumrah!

Jasprit Bumrah is giving nothing away to the England openers. He bowls yet another tight over, conceding only one run. Jacob Bethell is off to a slow start and will be eager to unleash. The southpaw is batting on two off 15 balls.

ENG 16-0 (5)

India vs England Live: Poor delivery!

Prasidh Krishna had been bowling really well, but he ends up leaking a boundary to Ben Duckett. The pacer bowls it outside leg stump and Duckett comfortably flicks it wide of fine leg for four. Six runs come off the over.

ENG 15-0 (4)

He bowled a loose delivery in the last over, but not this time. Jasprit Bumrah bowls a tight over, conceding only one run. He and Prasidh Krishna have managed to keep the England openers in check so far.

FOUR! Five dot balls from Jasprit Bumrah before Ben Duckett smashes the final delivery for four. The India pacer troubled the batter a lot. Only four runs come off the over. Not a bad return for Bumrah to ODI cricket after a gap of 967 days.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Here's what Gill said at the toss

"We were looking to bowl first. Most of the boys have played T20Is, the rest have had a good training and are set for today. Important series for us, the preparations start from here - the type of combinations we can try and give chances for some of the guys who have less experience. Most of the seniors are back - Virat bhai, Rohit bhai and KL. Very excited for the series; have good memories here. We've got 4 seamers with Dube and two spinners - Washy and Axar," said India skipper Shubman Gill.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Here's what Brook said at the toss

"We will have a bat today. Looks like a good surface, don't know what will happen, but fancy our chances to bat well and hopefully see some spin in the second innings. Assess the conditions as quickly as possible. Having similar players in T20Is and ODIs brings a sense of confidence for the captain and the players. We have struggled over the last couple of years, but we can turn the page and we've the side for that. We've gone with two spinners and three seamers," said England captain Harry Brook.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Toss

England captain Harry Brook wins the toss, opts to bat against India in the first ODI of the three-match series on Tuesday in Birmingham.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Pitch report

"It might be good for the fast bowlers in the first innings., There's a good covering of grass. There's a lot of moisture content. The team winning the toss will want to bowl first," said Varun Aaron.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Streaming details

Here are the live streaming details for the first ODI between India and England.

Where: Edgbaston, Birmingham

Where to watch: The England-India ODI series will be telecast on the Sony Sports Network and streamed live on the JioHotstar app and website

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: India's spin trio

Both Washington Sundar and Axar Patel were massive disappointments during the T20I series in both batting and bowling. But they are unlikely to bear any consequences as they outscore the team's best spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, on perception of "better willow wielding" abilities. Kuldeep, by a country mile, is a better spinner and the only one among the three with an ability to turn the ball even when there is nothing on offer from the surface.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: India's bowling lineup

India's new fast bowling hope Gurnoor Brar, after an impressive start against Afghanistan at home, will face a completely different challenge with his lengths on English tracks. Arshdeep Singh will certainly add dimension as the left-arm seamer in the pack while Shivam Dube, a forced choice due to the absence of an injured Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy, will be the fourth seamer at Edgbaston.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: BCCI's new plan

According to a report by the Times of India, the BCCI is looking to implement a rotation policy, in order to test all the players ahead of the 2027 World Cup. However, the management is hesitating to convey this message to the senior duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. As per the plans, the management wants to test every player in the squad by giving them a chance in the XI. For that, Kohli and Rohit also have to make way for someone.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: India's debacle in T20Is

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma presence for this series certainly holds more significance after the Indian team, under a new T20 skipper Shreyas Iyer, lost all but one of its seven T20I matches in the ongoing tour. The only match they didn't lose was a game that got abandoned. The 0-2 defeat versus Ireland and 0-4 thrashing handed by England has opened a Pandora's Box with BCCI calling for a performance review.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Kohli eyes big feat

Virat Kohli returns on the verge of multiple milestones. Birmingham is set to witness his 300th ODI innings, while another productive series could take the former captain beyond 15,000 ODI runs. Since the beginning of 2025, he has averaged an astonishing 123 across his last seven ODI innings.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Rohit-Gill set to open

India's batting once again wears a familiar look. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are set to reunite at the top of the order, a partnership that averages 60.9 in ODIs. Gill heads into the series in red-hot form, having amassed 373 runs in five innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including three half-centuries and a hundred.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: Return of senior trio

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, along with Jasprit Bumrah, are back in the mix to play the format in which bilaterals have been losing both context and sheen amid growing popularity of T20 cricket. The 39-year-old Rohit and the soon-to-be 38 Kohli still have the fire in their bellies and the runs to show for their efforts as they aim for a ODI World Cup swansong.

India vs England, 1st ODI Live: History Awaits Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma return to the Indian team for the first time since the start of the year against when India had squared off against New Zealand. With India heading into the 3-match ODI series against England on the back of a 0-4 defeat in T20Is, Kohli will be key to the team's plans of redemption.

The talismanic batter would also be keen to topple Rahul Dravid and become India's highest-scoring player against England in ODIs.
