... The Run Chase ...

!
Now, heading into the second innings, the game is evenly poised. A target of 190 is by no means a walk in the park, and Australia will need a solid start, as the onus will be on their top order to set the tone. West Indies will be buoyed by their strong total, and the next first overs of the chase will be crucial. Join us in a bit for the second half of the match!

West Indies' Roston Chase is up for a flash interview. He reflects on the strong start in the Powerplay and says he looked to go on the offensive to build on that. He mentions that his role with the bat is to be expressive and play his shots freely. Chase notes there’s some bounce in the surface and observes that hitting the deck hard gets some movement, which he hopes the bowlers can make the most of while defending the total.

Australia’s bowling was tested heavily early on, but they showed great character and control in the second half. Ben Dwarshuis was the standout, finishing with four wickets, including a game-changing 19th over where he picked three. Nathan Ellis was tidy and effective as always, mixing up his lengths and slower balls smartly to pick up a key wicket. Owen, on debut, made an instant impact by removing the dangerous Hope in his first over. Zampa was economical but couldn't manage a breakthrough, while the rest of the bowlers were expensive in the middle overs. Marsh used as many as seven bowlers to find a breakthrough, and while that didn’t pay off initially, his persistence was rewarded as the Aussies pulled things back late. Their control at the death helped limit West Indies to under 190, which looked unlikely at one point.

The Windies batters played with fearless intent, especially after a flying start by Brandon King, who smacked four boundaries in his short stay. Shai Hope, the skipper, took charge from there and played the anchor role while also finding the boundary at regular intervals. Roston Chase was the star of the innings, smashing a quickfire 60 off just 32 balls, and together with Hope, stitched a 91-run stand that put Australia under pressure. After their dismissals, Shimron Hetmyer kept the tempo up with a blistering 38 from 19 deliveries. However, the middle and lower order crumbled under pressure, with Russell, Rutherford, and Holder all departing in a space of four balls during a chaotic 19th over. The finishing kick was missing, but still, a total nearing 190 gives their bowlers something solid to defend.

!
West Indies have posted a strong total of 189/8, but Australia clawed their way back beautifully in the last five overs to restrict what looked like a potential 210-plus score. After being asked to bat first, West Indies came out firing, racing to 56 in the Powerplay for the loss of just one wicket. The momentum was with them throughout the first half of the innings, thanks to their top order firing on all cylinders. However, the Aussies stayed patient, rotated their bowlers smartly, and managed to strike in regular intervals once the set batters were dismissed. The final five overs saw West Indies lose six wickets for just 37 runs, and that turned the game around a little in Australia’s favour despite the good total.

19.61Nathan Ellis to Alzarri Joseph
Excellent bowling and excellent finish from Ellis in the final over! Spears in a yorker, on middle and off, Alzarri Joseph jams the bat down in time and the ball is squeezed out to the leg side, beside the pitch. The batters do get a quick single before Ellis gets to the ball. Just 5 runs off the final over and West Indies finish with 189/8 on the board.

JUST IN! On a back of a length, and just wide on off. Alzarri Joseph drives it towards widish long off, and the call is for two straightaway. Green gets on the ball quickly and throws it flat to the bowler on a couple of bounces. Nathan Ellis collects it cleanly and whips the bails off, but Gudakesh Motie has dragged his bat safely inside the crease at the non-striker's end. The replays, too, confirm the same.

Is that a run-out? Ellis collected the throw well and dislodged the bails. Third umpire is called in and he checks the replays. Motie has made it to his crease in time. NOT-OUT comes on the screen.

Shimron Hetmyer departs for a handy 38 (19) and West Indies slip further down from 184/4 to 186/8.

18.4WBen Dwarshuis to Sherfane Rutherford
OUT! TAKEN! Ben Dwarshuis gets his third, and he is on a Hat-Trick now! Australia are clawing their way back in the contest here. Shortish delivery on the top of the middle stump, Rutherford clears the front leg to give himself some room for a big pull shot. But ends up getting a top edge and it balloons up a mile in the air. The man from deep backward square leg, Sean Abbott, runs in and snaffles the catch, getting low on his haunches. A golden duck for Sherfane Rutherford and the West Indies are 184/6.
