An absolute nail-biter to start the Tri-Nation A series. Sri Lanka A stitched a 93-run opening partnership, and were cruising at 187/3, with Sadeera Samarawickrama and Sahan Arachchige at the crease. But first Ayush Badoni and Anukul Roy derailed the chase, and then Vipraj Nigam, Anshul Kamboj and Arshad Khan finished things off in dramatic style. The likes of Sahan Arachchige and Wanuja Sahan will be wondering how things went wrong so badly in the end. SL A needed 10 off 12 with three wickets in hand, but the game changed completely in the 49th over.

INDIA A CLINCH VICTORY! A win in the most dramatic circumstances! Three wickets in four balls! Mohammed Shiraz goes for a big hit, but Vipraj Nigam takes a great catch at deep square-leg to seal the win for India A. Heartbreak for Sri Lanka A, who had the match under control, but lost their way right at the end.

The India A camp is visibly displeased. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Tilak Varma have an intense chat with the on-field umpires, but there's nothing more they can do about the third umpire's verdict.

Sri Lanka lose both their openers now and India are bouncing back.

Hello and welcome to the second innings of the tri-series match between India A and Sri Lanka A. In the chase of 278, Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando have opened the proceedings for Sri Lanka A. On the other hand, Anshul Kamboj will be bowling the first over for India A. 

Mohammed Siraj has been rested for Ireland and England T20Is. He has been replaced with Prasidh Krishna. "Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the team management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season," BCCI said in a release. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi failed to play a noticeable knock and so did his fellow opener Prabhsimran Singh. India A found themselves struggling at 16 for 2 and 69 for 3, but captain Ruturaj Gaikwad's 101 and skipper Tilak Varma's 60 helped the batting side make a comeback. Brisk cameos from Suryansh Shedge (26 not out off 14) and Ayush Badoni (24 off 18) towards the end helped the cause of India A as the side posted a good total of 277.

India A have ended their innings at 277/6 in 50 overs against Sri Lanka A. For India A, Ruturaj Gaikwad was the top-scorer with 101 runs, while Tilak Varma scored 60. Apart from them, Suryansh Shedge also played a quick knock unbeaten knock of 26 off 14 balls. For Sri Lanka, Mohamed Shiraz took two wickets, while Chamika Karunaratne, Garuka Sanketh, and Wanuja Sahan took one wicket each. Sri Lanka A now need 278 runs to win this match.

Priyansh was obstructed slightly by the wicketkeeper while trying to return, and failed to make his crease in time. As a result, Priyansh Arya is run out for 32, leaving India A three down.

It is worth noting that Sony TV had a relatively quiet run in sports broadcasting this year, as both the T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 were aired on rival channels.

IPL exploits have generated immense excitement among fans, prompting Sony TV to secure the broadcasting rights for the series. According to a report by Cricbuzz, Sony TV will broadcast the entire Tri-Series across both television and OTT platforms. The tournament, scheduled from June 9 to June 21, will be telecast on Sony Sports and Sony LIV.

Having the likes of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Prabhsimran Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Priyansh Arya, it will be interesting to see who will India opt as their openers. Seeing Sooryavanshi's rise in the recent times, his selection is all but certain in the Playing XI. 

“Everyone has seen how good he is. Everyone has seen him as well in U19 (World Cup), how he played in the finals, especially in one-day format. We are quite excited to see him, how he plays in this format. For him, I feel coming in Sri Lanka and slower wickets, it will be slightly changed for his batting role. But I am pretty confident that he will do well here as well,” said India A skipper Tilak Varma on the eve of the match.

India A captain Tilak Varma said the series will be a good challenge for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the longer format where he had done well for India U-19’s title-winning campaign in the World Cup earlier this year.

All eyes are on the 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. After having a blockbuster outing in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, where he scored 776 runs in 16 matches, the Bihar-born batter would be eager to shine the 50-over format as well. Ahead of the match against Sri Lanka A, Sooryavanshi was seen defending a few balls in the nets sessions in Dambulla, but nevertheless, it is the promise of his explosive game that has the potential to draw in crowds.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has made his way to the world-dominating Indian T20I side, which has won the last two T20 World Cups. His addition makes the three-time winners stronger. But for now, the left-handed batter threatens to challenge the best of the bowlers in the 50-overs format, with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan bracing for the wonder kid who has caught the eye of the cricket fraternity.

India A will be playing under the captaincy of Tilak Varma. The 23-year-old batter had a decent outing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026, scoring 359 runs in 14 matches. This also include two half-centuries and a ton. He will be eager to guide India A to a dominating win in the Tri-Nation series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, last year, had smashed an astonishing 144 off just 42 balls in India A's overwhelming triumph over the United Arab Emirates in their Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 match. He would be keen to produce a similarly dominant performance against Sri Lanka A today, but this time in a one-day match.

The Sri Lanka A team also has some fine names on the squad sheet. Some of them are: Avishka Fernando, Nuwanidu Fernando, Niroshan Dickwella(w), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Ravindu Fernando, Ahan Wickramasinghe, etc.
