128.3 OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! A huge appeal from the bowler and the keeper didn't quite look convinced but the dreaded finger goes up. Finally, something to cheer for Sri Lanka as Prabath Jayasuriya breaks through to get rid of Usman Khawaja just after the drinks break. Fires it in, angling it away, on a shorter length, just outside off, Usman Khawaja stands put and looks to push it out but only manages to get a faint outside edge. Kusal Mendis does well to gobble it up low to his left after a slight fumble. Usman Khawaja departs after an exceptional 232 (352) and Australia are 547/4. 547/4

Travis Head | 57 | 40 | 10 | 1 | 142.50 |
14.3 OUT! CAUGHT! That has come out of nowhere and Sri Lanka finally break this opening stand! Well, you live by the sword and you die by it. Head was looking to attack the bowlers from the word go and he has eventually fallen to his own policy, but not before a quickfire 57 (40). Prabath Jayasuriya continues to give the ball flight and Travis Head continues to use his feet. Only this time, he is not quite to the pitch of the ball. He aims to clear long on but for once, the ball hits the bottom of his bat. Hence, he gets more height than distance and Dinesh Chandimal makes no mistake at the fence. Just the kick the Lankans needed heading into the break, as Australia are 92/1! 92/1

Marnus Labuschagne | 20 | 50 | 2 | 0 | 40 |
30 OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Well, when Jeffrey Vandersay woke up this morning, Lady Luck told him, 'Kid, just be patient. I am with you.' He had Labuschagne's name written on one of his amazing deliveries and eventually, he has got his man. Tossed up, outside off, Marnus Labuschagne pushes at it, pretty unconvincingly. The ball spins away, takes the outside edge and flies quickly to first slip. This time, Dhananjaya de Silva makes no mistake. Vandersay is pumped up and he richly deserves this wicket. Labuschagne, forlorn as he is always, even after scoring 200, heads back to the dressing room, crestfallen as well. He got a start, faced 49 balls, made 20 but got out on the 50th ball. The 43-run stand has been broken and AUSTRALIA ARE 135/2! 135/2

Steve Smith C | 141 | 251 | 12 | 2 | 56.17 |
99.5 OUT! LBW! At long last, after nearly 70 overs, Sri Lanka get a wicket! And it is the prized scalp of the opposition skipper. Excellent review from Dhananjaya de Silva after missing out on a few on Day 1. Vandersay is a leg spinner but he smartly slips in a googly, around off. Perhaps Smith does not pick it, because he adjusts his batting defense, looking to play for the turn. However, the ball does not turn and goes straight on with the angle instead. Hence, it beats the inside edge of the bat and hits him on his back pad. Kusal Mendis, the keeper, appeals for LBW but the umpire turns it down. The Lankans then take the review and first, UltraEdge is checked, which shows a flat line when the ball goes past the bat. Time for Ball Tracking and it shows to be hitting the top of off stump! Smith's long vigil ends on 141 and the mammoth 266-run stand has been broken after 2-and-a-half sessions. AUSTRALIA ARE 401/3! 401/3
Josh Inglis | 102 | 94 | 10 | 1 | 108.51 |
133 OUT! CAUGHT! One brings two for Sri Lanka! Exceptional setup from Prabath Jayasuriya and Sri Lanka as they get rid of the other set batter. With the mid-wicket region completely open, Jayasuriya tosses the ball up, around off and invites the batter to go against him. Inglis skips down to the pitch of the ball and looks to hammer it through mid-wicket but closes the bat face a bit too early. Ends up chopping it straight to Kamindu Mendis at short cover off the leading edge. Mendis takes a good catch above his head with both hands. Josh Inglis departs after a well-made 102 (94) and Australia lose half their side for 570 runs. 570/5

Beau Webster | 23 | 50 | 1 | 0 | 46 |
149.2 OUT! CAUGHT! Against everything, run of play and what not, a wicket has fallen. Tossed up, outside off, Beau Webster gets down and drills the cover drive really hard. There is a fielder over there who dives to his right but no one realizes that the catch has been taken. Kamindu Mendis then gets up and indicates that he has taken the catch and Sri Lanka find something to smile about. The 59-run stand is broken and Australia are 629/6. Not a bad knock by Beau Webster who looked gritty for his 23. 629/6

Oshada Fernando | 7 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 70 |
2 OUT! LBW! Matthew Kuhnemann strikes in his very first over! Terrific start for Australia. Kuhnemann lands it around middle and leg, on a length and gets the ball to turn away from the right-hander off the deck, Oshada Fernando goes deep in the crease, opens up his stance and looks to tuck it down but misses on the inside edge and gets hit high on the pad. Up go the Aussies in unison for an appeal and just when Matthew Kuhnemann turned his back to the umpire and looks to the keeper to ask for a review, the umpire raises his finger. Oshada Fernando decides to send it upstairs for a review hoping for the ball to either have pitched down leg or the impact to be too high. But the UltraEdge and Ball Tracking both come in favour of Australia and Sri Lanka lose their first wicket for 7/1. 7/1

Dimuth Karunaratne | 7 | 13 | 1 | 0 | 53.84 |
4.2 OUT! EDGED, DROPPED, THEN CAUGHT! It is Nathan McSweeney, on as a substitute for Usman Khawaja. Good reflexes. He was excellent in his brief meeting against India at home recently, taking sharp catches behind the wickets. It is almost a replica of what happened on the previous ball. That angle from Starc, left-arm over the wicket forces Karunaratne to play at a ball which he probably could have left alone. The ball comes in after landing on a good length but it is still well outside off. Dimuth Karunaratne looks to guide the ball behind point but there is extra bounce which makes Karunaratne to rise with the ball. He is not in control and gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies behind to gully where McSweeney rises with the ball and half-stops it. Luckily for him, the ball goes straight up in the air. McSweeney initially is not sure where the ball is, so he searches for the ball but then, locates it. Turns back slightly, dives and takes it neatly. The Aussies rush towards him to celebrate as Karunaratne walks back for 7. Sri Lanka are 15/2 and trail by 639! 15/2
Dinesh Chandimal | 72 | 139 | 9 | 0 | 51.79 |
49.2 OUT! LBW! Appeal and given! Looked pretty adjacent but Dinesh Chandimal will review as he has to. Nathan Lyon tosses this one up fuller and on middle, getting the ball to turn into the right-hander but Chandimal goes for the reverse sweep and misses and gets hit on the pads, right in front of the stumps. The third umpire is called in but there's nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. Sri Lanka's resilience has ended in a space of two overs as Chandimal now departs for 72(139) and they are in deep trouble. 156/7
Angelo Mathews | 7 | 18 | 1 | 0 | 38.88 |
9.3 OUT! CAUGHT! Travis Head takes an extraordinary catch! Brilliant bowling and an even better take to see the back of Angelo Mathews! Sri Lanka are reeling at 30/3, trailing by 624 more runs. Nathan Lyon tosses the ball up, around off and gets it to dip in front of the batter. Angelo Mathews takes a good stride to block but the ball dips, turns back in sharply and goes off the inside edge. It lobs off his pads to the right of short leg where Travis Head flings across with an outstretched right hand to grab on. 30/3
Kamindu Mendis | 15 | 38 | 1 | 1 | 39.47 |
20.3 OUT! CAUGHT DOWN THE LEG SIDE! Oh dear, what a gift of a wicket for Australia! Definitely not the best ball Starc has bowled in his career and definitely not a part of the team plan either. It is a buffet ball, full and down the leg side, with the caption written in bold letters - 'HELP YOURSELF'. Kamindu Mendis looks to flick it away but all he manages is a faint tickle behind to the keeper and Alex Carey does the rest! Starc cannot hide his glee because he knows that the ball did not deserve a wicket at all. But Australia will take it. Kamindu walks back for 15 and the 37-run stand is broken. Sri Lanka are 67/4 and trail Australia by 587! 67/4
Dhananjaya de Silva C | 22 | 34 | 3 | 0 | 64.70 |
32.3 OUT! STUMPED! Oh dear, Dhananjaya de Silva throws his wicket to say the least! Matthew Kuhnemann strikes soon after the break and breaks the 40-run stand. Just when things started to seem like were getting back on track for Sri Lanka, they lose their skipper. Matthew Kuhnemann gives the ball air and keeps it outside off, Dhananjaya de Silva, almost as a predetermined approach skips down the track for a heave across the line and misses by a long way. The ball goes past to the right of the keeper Alex Carey who flicks the bails in a flash with absolutely no way for DDS to get back. Sri Lanka lose half their side now and are 107/5, trailing by 547 runs. 107/5
Kusal Mendis Wk | 21 | 40 | 1 | 1 | 52.50 |
48.1 OUT! TAKEN! Matthew Kuhnemann strikes and that is a poor choice of shot from Kusal Mendis as well. Tossed up around off, a bit flatter as well and turning away. Mendis sits down and looks to slog sweep against the turn but gets it more of the top edge and in front of square as well. Todd Murphy at deepish square leg runs to his left and reverse-cups it nicely before tumbling over. Mendis departs for 21(40) and Sri Lanka are now 156/6. 156/6

Prabath Jayasuriya |
6 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
50.1 OUT! STUMPED! Matthew Kuhnemann gets his fourth and Sri Lanka going down in a hurry now. Flighted up from around the stumps, immaculate length around off and gets the ball to dip as well. Prabath Jayasuriya comes down the pitch but fails to get to the pitch of the ball and it turns past him as well. Alex Carey whips off the bails and Jayasuriya is nowhere to be seen. 156/8
Jeffrey Vandersay | 4 | 7 | 1 | 0 | 57.14 |
52.2 OUT! CAUGHT! It was just a matter of time and Matthew Kuhnemann gets his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket, impressive from him. Tosses this one up nicely and on a slightly fuller length on off. The ball dips and turns away as Jeffrey Vandersay looks to just reach for it and hit it away. The ball ends up getting sliced in the ait and towards the cover region where Mitchell Starc takes a simple catch and Sri Lanka are bowled out for just 165 runs. Australia have a first innings lead of 489 runs and we might see the Aussies impose their first follow-on in Asia since 2002. 165/10
Nishan Peiris | 5 | 9 | 1 | 0 | 55.55 |
51.5 OUT! CAUGHT! Snared at short leg! Nathan Lyon stays around the wicket and tosses it up on a dragged length around middle. Nishan Peiris leans on to block but ends up getting and inside edge onto the pads and the ball lobs up to the right of short leg where Josh Inglis takes a sharp catch, his first in Test cricket and Australia are just one wicket away from bundling Sri Lanka out. 161/9

2.1 OUT! LBW! A huge appeal and given! Mitchell Starc draws first blood for Australia in the second innings but Oshada Fernando has reviewed it. Starc goes full and straight as Fernando looks to get across a bit and flick it away but falls over a bit to the off side and is beaten past the inside edge as the ball crashes into the pads. The third umpire is called in and there are a few spikes on UltraEdge but none of them are of the willow and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. That's hitting middle of middle, a waste of a review from Fernando and Sri Lanka who are now 6/1. 6/1

Dimuth Karunaratne |
4 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
3.1 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Oh, what have you done, Dimuth Karunaratne? Todd Murphy strolls in from around the stumps and bowls a quicker one at 94 clicks, on a good length and on a tight line around off. This is the one that goes straight on with the arm, Karunaratne gets a stride out and then shoulders arms but the ball slides on and crashes into the off stump and the former Lankan skipper is left baffled. Australia rejoice and Sri Lanka are 6/2 inside the first four overs. 6/2
Dinesh Chandimal | 31 | 49 | 3 | 0 | 63.26 |
17.2 OUT! CAUGHT! What a sensational use of a review from Steven Smith and Australia as they break the 69-run partnership. Nathan Lyon gets the wicket of Dinesh Chandimal twice in a session! This is short and on off, turning in, Dinesh Chandimal lunges to block but is beaten on the inside edge with the ball turning back in. The ball lobs off his pads straight to Travis Head at short leg and the Australians go up for an appeal. The umpire turns it down and Nathan Lyon seems to be convinced by the decision. Steven Smith however is pretty confident there were two sounds and sends it upstairs for a check. The UltraEdge shows a spike as the ball goes past the glove and the third umpire deems it OUT. The original onfield call is asked to be overturned and Australia get the big wicket of Dinesh Chandimal for 31 (49) just at the stoke of Lunch. 75/3
Angelo Mathews | 41 | 59 | 6 | 0 | 69.49 |
25.1 OUT! CAUGHT! Well taken and Sri Lanka now lose both their set batters! Nathan Lyon tosses the ball up on a good length and around off, Angelo Mathews gets a big stride in and looks to reverse sweep the ball but gets a top edge. The ball then lobs up off the arm and to the right of backward short leg where Head dives across and pouches it safely. Mathews departs for 41(59) and Sri Lanka in deep, deep trouble here. 114/5
Kamindu Mendis | 32 | 26 | 4 | 1 | 123.07 |
24.3 OUT! CAUGHT! One shot too many from Kamindu Mendis and Sri Lanka lose their fourth wicket. He was looking so good in the middle and now has to trudge back reflecting on that shot. Matthew Kuhnemann tosses this one up, on middle and turns it in, Kamindu Mendis skips down the track for a heave across the line and manages to reach to the pitch of the ball. Doesnt get the timing on the shot right and skies it straight down the throat of Mitchell Starc at deep mid-wicket. Sri Lanka are now 114/4 and trails by 375 runs. 114/4
Dhananjaya de Silva C | 39 | 50 | 8 | 0 | 78 |
39.5 OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket out of nowhere and Dhananjaya de Silva will be disappointed yet again. Matthew Kuhnemann flights it up, around off and gets the ball to turn away. de Silva with not much of conviction tries to repeat the shot he hit on the previous ball. The ball dips in front of the bat and spins away to go off the outer half. Skew straight to the cover region where Beau Webster settles under and takes it with ease. Sri Lanka lose their 6th wicket for 179 runs and still trail by 310 runs. 179/6
Kusal Mendis Wk | 34 | 47 | 4 | 0 | 72.34 |
41 OUT! STUMPED! Oh, Alex Carey almost makes a mess of it but comes in clutch at the right moment. Lovely delivery from Nathan Lyon, flighted up outside off, not all that full and draws Kusal Mendis out of his crease. The ball then slides on straight rather than turning in and Mendis is undone by it. The ball beats the outside edge and Carey tries collecting it at an awkward height but uses his chest to keep the ball under control and whips off the bails. The third umpire checks it thoroughly and finds that the keeper did glove it exactly when the bails came off and it will be OUT. 187/7
Prabath Jayasuriya | 1 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 33.33 |
42.1 OUT! CLEANS HIM UP! Nathan Lyon comes over the wicket and tosses the ball up wide outside off, a bit full and right on the rough. There is a huge explosion of dust and the ball turns back in sharply whilst keeping a bit low as well. Prabath Jayasuriya though pre-meditates the slog and gets a big stride across but is beaten all ends up as the ball castles into the off pole. Nathan Lyon on a hat-trick now! 192/8
Jeffrey Vandersay | 53 | 47 | 7 | 2 | 112.76 |
54.3 OUT! CAUGHT! That's it, it's all over and Australia have picked up their fourth biggest Test win ever, winning by an innings and 242 runs! Matthew Kuhnemann tosses this one up and pushes it wider of the off stump. Jeffrey Vandersay having got a couple of hits away and now reached his fifty, throws his hands at it and miscues it completely. The ball gets sliced up around backward point where Mitchell Starc settles under it and picks up a catch. Kuhnemann picks up his fourth wicket of the innings and his 9th in the match. 247/10

47.1 OUT! BOWLED'EM! Matthew Kuhnemann comes over the wicket now to the left-hander and tosses the ball up on a good length and around off. Gets the ball to turn back in sharply, not much but enough. Nishan Peiris hops onto the back foot to block but is beaten past the outside edge and the ball knocks over the off stump. Australia one wicket away now from victory! 209/9
