4.5 OUT! It is going all downhill for the hosts! Who would have thought they will have such a horrid start in familiar conditions. On the contrary, India on whom a lot of hopes were pinned have come out firing on all cylinders. A horrible shot really from Amla. In the corridor of uncertainty, the ball seams away a touch after pitching. Amla without any footwork tries to force it through covers but only manages to get a thick outside edge behind. Saha moves to his right to take a regulation catch. Third wicket for Kumar, he is making it a nightmare for the opposition batsmen.  12/3

Gets the ball to seam in a touch after pitching. De Villiers goes for a booming drive down the ground but gets an inside edge which goes onto the disturb the furniture behind. The third umpire checks for the no ball but Bumrah's front foot is right on the popping crease this time. A rash shot from AB and he has paid the price for it. End of the brilliant 114-run stand. Yet again a top Protea batsman has thrown his wicket away. Short and a bit of room on offer, du Plessis goes for a cut but only manages to get a nick behind. 44.5 OUT! Caught behind! No fifty for de Kock. Another beautiful ball from Kumar and he has his 4th wicket. On a length outside off, angling in, de Kock is forced to play at that but at the last moment, he thinks of leaving it alone. Is late and the ball goes off something to the keeper. Saha is confident and straightaway appeals and the umpire raises his finger! Philander has a chat with de Kock regarding the review who seems to indicate that he has nicked it. Though, he looks like a confused person actually. For a second, I thought he was asking Philander whether there was an outside edge.  202/6

50.2 OUT! Bowled! Shami gets his man this time. He maintains his length, just outside off and gets it to nip back again. Philander tries to play it this time but is comprehensively beaten. The ball goes past the bat and just clips the top of the bails and that will do! Big wicket for India under the circumstances. 62.2 OUT! Ashwin, you beauty! The Indian bowlers were struggling to pick up wickets and the partnership has been broken by a run out! That is why fielding drills are so important. Lazy, very lazy from Maharaj. He worked this wide of mid on and set off for a single. For a change, Ravichandran Ashwin, CHARGED on to the ball. Yes, he charged. But perhaps Maharaj did not expect that because he just tried to get back. Ashwin fired a throw at the striker's end and hit the stumps! There was not much excitement from the bowler or the fielder but India's slip cordon was very excited, especially Kohli who was over the moon in appealing. It was referred upstairs and yes, replays confirm that laziness has cost Maharaj his wicket! Against the run of play. A crucial 37-run stand has been broken. Fine knock by Maharaj.  258/8

69.3 OUT! That is a very good catch and Ashwin has his first wicket! Short in length outside off, Rabada looks to cut but is too close to the ball and nicks it. There is a big noise and deflection and Saha does extremely well to take it with a leap. Rabada does not go but he is sent on his way by the umpire. 73.1 OUT! LBW! That is a dead duck. Ashwin bowls this very straight and Morkel, who is well across his stumps to defend, misses the ball and is hit on the pads. 4.4 OUT! Philander draws first blood! Consistently bowling nagging lines and lengths around that off stump channel has paid dividends for him and his side. On a driveable length outside off, drawing Vijay to attempt something ambitious. The right-hander was so good in being circumspect till now but this time he drives at it with minimal foot movement. An outside edge is induced and the ball flies towards Elgar at gully who takes it at chest height to his left. Ideal start for South Africa. They will be eager to nip another couple of wickets before the close of play.  16/1

5.2 OUT! How do you explain that shot? He has literally thrown his wicket away. With around 20 minutes left in the day and attempting such a kind of a shot is difficult to fathom. Back of a length ball on off, not the ideal length to go for the pull. However, Dhawan is adamant and goes for the big pull even though his head position is nowhere and his balance is not there as well. Ends up getting a top edge which skies in the air. For a moment, it is not clear where the ball is heading but the cameras spot it. It is coming down the track as Steyn doesn't budge in his followthrough and accepts the dolly. Pujara is guilty of poking at it and ends up getting a fat outside edge which flies towards third slip. Faf du Plessis dives to his right and takes a good low catch. You don't see the No. 3 batsman flirting with deliveries so wide outside the off stump. A poor shot and he pays a huge price for it. The backbone of the Indian side has been broken. He is walking back to the dressing room and is absolutely gutted. The South African players are rejoicing. 100th Test wicket for Philander in South Africa, a good achievement. 8.1 OUT! The big fish departs! Another example of an Indian batsman failing to come to terms with the Newlands track. Back of a length delivery outside off, seaming away after hitting the deck. No need for playing at it but the skipper goes chasing after it with a hop. Ends up getting a faint nick behind and de Kock does well to take a catch to his right. Look at Morkel, he is absolutely pumped up. Being the captain of the side, this is not the way you should play at the fag end of the day. Doesn't send the right signal to the following batsmen. 28.2 OUT! The on-field call is upheld and India exhaust a review! This is a vital breakthrough for South Africa and it is the young Rabada who has brought joy on the faces of his teammates. He runs in with good rhythm and bowls a fullish delivery around off. Gets it to swing in prodigiously as well. Sharma aims to drive it down the ground but his bat comes from behind the pad and he falls over a bit as well. Ends up missing it completely and is hit flush on the pads. The Proteas roar in an appeal and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Looks adjacent to the naked eye. Sharma walks across to Pujara and finally decides to challenge the decision. The Snicko doesn't spot any edge. Now, the Hawk Eye reveals three reds and Rohit is a dead duck. Rabada troubled him in the last over and has the last laugh. 38.5 OUT! What a stunner! Take a bow, Quinton de Kock. He has grabbed some terrific catches behind the stumps and this one is right up there. Full length ball outside off, swinging away and encouraging Ashwin to go for an ambitious stroke. He obliges but goes at it half-heartedly. Ends up getting a faint nick. De Kock has his feet moving, generates good momentum with his left foot and leaps like a goalkeeper to his right to take a beauty. 15 OUT! Hardik Pandya is in the thick of things again! Much-needed breakthrough for India. Got to say that it was a needless shot from Markram and he has thrown his wicket away. Back of a length ball on off, Markram hops and goes for a half pull/half flick. Not the ideal length to play the pull. Ends up getting a top edge that lobs in the air towards Kumar at the point region. He doesn't move an inch and takes a comfortable catch. An innings that promised so much has been cut short. 16.4 OUT! India are right back in the contest courtesy Hardik Pandya again! He is doing a similar sort of job as Ben Stokes does for England. A really energetic character, you can be sure that he will give his cent percent. Lands it on a fullish length around off and gets the ball to move away after pitching. Enough on it to induce a false stroke from a tentative Elgar and he gets a thick outside edge. Saha moves to his left and accepts it gleefully. South Africa lead by 136 runs.  59/2

25.5 OUT! Double-strike for Shami this morning. He has been bowling nagging lines and lengths around that off stump corridor and reaps the dividends again. Bends his back this time and bowls a back of a length ball on off. Rabada's bat face is a little closed as he attempts to play it defensively with the angle towards the leg side. However, he ends up getting a thick outside edge towards the slip cordon. Kohli is onto it in a flash like a hawk to his right and takes a sharp catch. Runs around in the celebratory mode and his teammates are ecstatic as well. The visitors are making the first hour of the day count.  73/4

21.3 OUT! The decision stays! A big, big breakthrough for India. Good length delivery outside off, leaving the right-hander with extra bounce. Amla aims to force it through covers with hard hands but gets a thick outside edge towards third slip. Sharma lines it up, gets low ahead and seems to have taken it inches above the ground. That's a great grab. Hang on! The body language of the visitors is confident but the umpires tell them to wait. They have a conversation with each other and decide to take it upstairs. De Villiers hits that like an archer shoots his arrow towards a target placed in front of him, and finds Bhuvi to perfection. Remember, this was the partnership that had steadied the ship for South Africa in the first innings. India will be relieved. Bumrah runs in from a bit wide of the crease and lands it on a length in the avenue of apprehension. Extracts appreciable bounce after landing and catches du Plessis in a tangle who comes forward tentatively to block it. Is completely taken aback as the ball brushes his gloves and flies behind to Saha who accepts it gleefully. The tourists are all over the home side at the moment.  82/5

30.4 OUT! This is all going downhill for South Africa! Judicious use of the review from India. Bumrah has been right on the money and brings in another reward for his side. Angles in a good length ball from outside off and extracts good bounce as well with the incoming angle. De Kock hops to keep it out but seems to have got an inside edge as Saha beind the stumps takes it. The Indians appeal in unison but the umpire stays put. Saha is very confident and Kohli opts for the DRS. Time for the replays. The Snicko does confirm a nick. OUT flashes the giant screen and look at Kohli. He is absoutely pumped. There are many occasions when you tend to falter when the conditions are really conducive for swing bowling but credit to India for being really disciplined. Fullish delivery around off, swinging in substantially. Philander comes half-forward in an attempt to deal with it but misses it to get hit flush on the pads. The Indians roar in an appeal and the umpire has no hesitation in ruling it out. Looked plumb too. However, Vernon walks across gingerly to de Villiers and talks with him. Challenges the decision eventually. Snicko shows no inside edge while Hawk Eye shows three reds. India only behind by 172 runs and need only three wickets to bowl the Proteas out.  95/7

40.2 OUT! Bounced out! Let me type that again. MORKEL HAS BEEN BOUNCED OUT. How many times do you see a Saffa player bounced out by an Indian bowler? A short ball, on middle, Morne has nowhere to move as he ducks blindly. He ends up fending at the ball as it comes at his face, takes the gloves and lobs in the air. The entire slip cordon comes charging in but has the sanity to allow Saha to take the catch.  130/9

Good length ball on off, takes off with extra bounce and moves away slightly. Pujara hops and has to try to keep it out but the ball catches the shoulder of the bat and flies behind. De Kock takes a regulation catch to his right. Morkel has taken off and pumps his fists. He is absolutely pumped up. The visitors still need 169 runs to win while South Africa need 7 wickets.  39/3

Kohli shuffles a bit, is late to bring his bat down on the flick and gets pinged on the pads. Philander doesn't stop in his followthrough and is already celebrating while the keeper appeals. Good length ball outside off, moving away after landing. Sharma initially tries to run it down to third man but then feels that it is better to be left alone. That misjudgement costs him dear and he gets a thick inside edge that goes onto hit the stumps. India have lost half their side now and are staring down the barrel.  76/5

29 OUT! No, it is not sliding down leg! Though India do not lose a review, they lose Saha. Rabada goes wide of the crease and angles in a full length ball that is swinging in prodigiously. Saha in a bid to keep it out falls over a bit and is hit flush on the pads. Rabada roars in an appeal and the umpire rules it out. Saha walks across to his partner and finally challenges the decision. Time for the replays. The Hawk Eye shows it is clipping the leg stump and that is enough. Credit to Rabada. Quinton de Kock was asked to come up to the stumps for this ball and he obeyed his captain. Philander bowled this outside off and Ashwin looked to punch it to the off side. He got a thick outside edge and a sharp one. But Quinton de Kock took it brilliantly and straightaway threw the ball up in the air in jubilation. Philander did not even bother to appeal and the umpire was smart. Did not give it out. Ashwin was smarter. Did not walk. Then QdK appealed and up went the finger! The 49-run stand is broken.  131/8
