Right then, that is it from this one-sided Test where India registers their biggest win in the Caribbean and takes a 1-0 lead. They will look for the whitewash while the hosts will hope to make a comeback and at least level the series. The 2nd Test will start on 20th July, Thursday at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know you can always join us early for all the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
Rohit Sharma, the victorious skipper of India says every runs you score for your country is important. Adds that it was a great start with the ball as bowling the hosts for 150 was a massive thing. Tells that getting more than 400 was brilliant as well and the bowling was very good. Praises Yashasvi Jaiswal and says he has a lot of talent and the talks with him was just to tell him to stay calm and focused which he did. Mentions that he was waiting for Kishan to score his first Test runs and that's why the gesture before the declaration. Tells that they have vast experience in bowling attack and Ashwin showed his class. Says they wanted to get a result in this first game of the WTC cycle and he is happy with the performance. Ends by saying that it is all about carrying the momentum and giving the new guys time in the middle and ticking those boxes.
Kraigg Brathwaite, the captain of West Indies at first thanks the crowd of Dominica. Says that they let themselves down with the bat and the first innings score was not good enough. Tells that the disappointing thing is that he didn't score runs which is his duty to lead from the front. Mentions that Ashwin and Jadeja are very tough to face and it is about being proactive. Adds that there was a few defensive dismissal and they have to use the bat more than the pads. Praises Alick Athanaze for his performance and says that he has the right mindset and has a very bright future.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his amazing hundred on Test debut. He says that this is a really special moment for him. Adds that the preparation was good and thanks Rohit Sharma and the selectors to show their faith in him. Tells that playing Test cricket for the country is a special moment for him and he has worked hard for this moment. Mentions that a lot of people have helped him throughout his journey and he wants to keep learning from the senior players.
Presentation Time ....
West Indies, on the other hand once again looked lackluster with their performance. The absence of Cornwall for the whole of Day 2 and the first session of Day 3 hurt them a lot as things could have been a bit different. Joseph worked really hard to get the massive wicket of debutant Jaiswal and Cornwall removed Kohli just as when he was looking to change gears. The visitors were asked to bat with a trail of 271 runs but their misery continued. Their batters didn't really have any answers to the deadly spin duo of Jaddu and Ashwin. Only Alick Athanze looked a bit secured for his 28 otherwise it is a sorry-looking scorecard for the Windies as they faced a massive defeat.
Losing the toss and bowling first turned out to be a blessing in disguise for India. Rohit Sharma quickly realised that it will be spin to win in this game and he introduced Ashwin early on. Once again he delivered as well with an excellent five-wicket haul while Jadeja picked three to bowl the hosts for 150.  Then came the young Yashasvi Jaiswal along with skipper Rohit Sharma to open for India and they played out till stumps on Day 1 almost cutting the deficit in half. India dominated proceedings on Day 2 as well with Rohit bringing up his 10th Test ton and Jaiswal scoring a brilliant century on debut. The visitors did lose their skipper but Kohli and Jaiswal played till the end of the Day with the youngster scoring runs freely.
India were already in a commanding position when they came out to bat on Day 3 and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn't take much time to mark his debut with another landmark as he crossed the 150-run mark. However, he was dismissed just after that and was disappointed as there was a double century on offer for him. Virat Kohli on the other end struggled and was given a couple of lives too as he registered a fifty as well. Ajinkya Rahane failed to grab this big opportunity as Ravindra Jadeja and Kohli built up a good stand which took them into the second session where the latter got out but the former scored at a good rate. Rohit Sharma decided to declare just as Ishan Kishan scored his first Test run and with the wicket turning a lot, he was aware that the lead was suffecient. It turned out to be a great decision as Ashwin and Jadeja both struck before Tea and in the third session, they replicated their effort. Ashwin ended up with a seven-wicket haul taking his tally to 12 in the match and Windies never really had a chance in this game.
INDIA WIN BY AN INNINGS AND 141 RUNS! Absolute domination from them to start the new WTC cycle! Ravichandran Ashwin registers his best figures overseas on his return to Test cricket while it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who took the limelight for his brilliant hundred on debut. West Indies will be really disappointed and it is a tough phase going on for Windies cricket. They will hope to come back in the next Test as India go 1-0 up.
