Right then! That is it from this one-sided game! The action from the Women's World Cup continues on Thursday, 24th March, after a day's break! It will be another double-header! First game of the day will be between South Africa Women and West Indies Women which begins at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous night). The second game of the day sees a clash between England Women and Pakistan Women. This fixture will begin at 6.30 am IST (1 am GMT) but you can tune in early for both these games as our build-up will begin much earlier. Cheers!
Mithali Raj, the victorious skipper, says that lack of form is a part and parcel of the game and she also had a similar kind of phase in 2012. Adds that it was important to get partnership on this kind of track and they did well to get to 229, in spite of losing three back-to-back wickets. Tells that having all-rounders helps and it strengthens their batting even more. Says that they have got some quality spinners and this game's surface assisted them a lot. Talking about their next game against South Africa, she says that it will be their first game in Christchurch and they want to do well in all the departments.
Nigar Sultana, the skipper of Bangladesh Women, says that it is very difficult to chase a target like this when the top order doesn't contribute. Tells that the bowlers have been doing well for them and they did put India under pressure. Mentions that Shamima Sultana wasn't playing this game so she kept wickets. Adds that lack of partnerships cost them the game. Says that there were a lot of positives from this game and they look forward to the next game.
Yastika Bhatia is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her knock of 50. She says that she is very pleased but she would have liked more runs for her team. Adds that she has prepared well to bat at number 3 and she has practised hard in the nets. Tells that she bats according to the situation and likes to rotate the strike. Mentions that she takes good care of her diet and says that she is happy to win her first player of match award in the World Cup.
Stay tuned for the presentation....
Batting woes continue for Bangladesh Women! They have been struggling with the bat throughout the tournament. Bangladesh Women lost 5 wickets for just 35 runs inside 20 overs. Salma Khatun and Lata Mondal did show some fighting spirit and scored some runs in the middle, but they perished soon after and could not hold on till the end. Ritu Moni also added some runs at the end and tried to do some sort of damage control. Bangladesh Women will be disappointed with their performance today and will have to come back stronger in their next game.
India Women do have a strong bowling attack and they have proved that yet again. It was a complete team performance from the Women in Blue. All the bowlers were right on cue. Mithali Raj used five bowlers and all of them managed to grab a wicket at least. They were very disciplined with their bowling and they made sure to grab wickets at regular intervals and not let the batters build a partnership. We did see that the pitch started assisting the spinners more in the second innings of the game, which did not help the batters. Sneh Rana was the leader of the pack, she grabbed four wickets in her spell and was economical as well. India Women have managed to grab a total of six points till now and they will gain a lot of confidence after this performance.
India Women win in an emphatic style! It was absolute carnage out there today! Everytime any bowler came on to bowl it looked like they were going to grab a wicket. Bangladesh Women had no answers to India's sensational bowling attack, they were all over the place. Although, they did show some resistance in the middle phase but failed to go on till the end. India Women grab two more vital points and remain in the top four, while Bangladesh Women have lost their fourth game of the competition, and continue to languish at the bottom half of the table.
