Right then, that's it from the coverage of this game. The Indian T20 League 2023 action continues on 22nd April. It is time for another double-header coming your way. In the first match, Lucknow will go up against Gujarat. This match will start at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT), followed by a match between Mumbai and Punjab at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you all know, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Ravindra Jadeja wins the Player of the Match award for his exceptional spell with the ball. He starts by saying that looking at the Chennai wicket always excites him. Adds that he always tries to attack the stumps. Mentions that Dhoni will continue to do stumping behind the sticks. He is a world-class player and believes that he can continue for a long time. Mentions that it is always an amazing feeling to play in front of the Chennai crowd. Hopes that every match at this venue is jam-packed.
MS Dhoni, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. He says this is the last phase of his career and he just wants to enjoy it. Adds that the fans have waited long to get back here and they haven't played in Chennai a lot and it is nice to see them. Tells that he is not getting a lot of batting but he is not complaining as the team is doing really well. Praises Matheesha Pathirana and says that he was fantastic with his lines and lengths and it is difficult to pick him for the new batters with the action and we have seen Malinga being consistent with something similar. Says that he was doubtful of batting second as there was no dew but credits the bowlers for their performance. Further adds that he gives the freedom to the bowlers to pick the field and only sometimes make changes but jokingly says this was difficult with Bravo as he would never agree with him. Ends by saying that it was a fantastic catch by him, but again jokingly says that still he didn't win the best catch. Remembers a time when Rahul Dravid took a similar catch and you have to be in a very wrong position to take a catch like that.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Devon Conway, the man of the moment is in for a quick chat. He starts by saying he is happy to get the win for his side and glad that he could stick till the very end. Mentions their recipe is to put the pressure on the bowlers as soon as possible. Adds that they got better conditions while batting. Informs that this wicket was good in the second innings and they just tried not to be reckless during the chase.
Aiden Markram, the captain of Hyderabad says that he is disappointed and the batting let them down in this game. Adds that they couldn't build a partnership and the par score was around 160 on this wicket. Mentions that they knew spinners could play a big role, but they just could not execute their plans during their batting. Tells that they need to start winning now and will need to bat well. Ends by saying that he is proud of his bowlers to take the game deep and they need a few guys to step up and come back stronger in the next match.
Earlier in the innings, after being put to bat first. Hyderabad batters could not find their mojo away from home. Except for Abhishek Sharma, no other batter looked as promising as he did. Aiden Markram and the coaching staff have a lot to ponder upon, they cannot go anywhere else other than the drawing board now. Chennai were on fire with the ball in hand, they kept the batters under constant pressure. The spinners then came into the attack and did the trick for them, as they restricted Hyderabad to a below-par score. Ravindra Jadeja was the magician behind this Chennai bowling performance. Eventually, the hosts chased it down without any trouble.
To be honest, there is not much to write about this bowling performance from Hyderabad. It was mostly a lacklustre performance from the bowlers. Except for Mayank Markande, no other bowler could really have an impact on this game. Also, sometimes having too many bowlers at your disposal could be a problem for the skipper, and that's how it turned out to be for Aiden Markram this evening.
Chasing a low target could always get tricky and it is all about getting off to a solid start with the bat and that is what Devon Conway provided for the hosts. He was on to the bowlers from the get-go. In a perfect world, Chennai could well have got over the line with all 10 wickets in hand, but it was not the case here, as Ruturaj Gaikwad slipped out against the run of play, that too in an unfortunate manner. Nonetheless, the target was too low to bother the Chennai batting rank and eventually, they got over the line with 7 wickets to spare. Devon Conway was there till the very end with his unbeaten knock of 77 runs.
A resounding victory for Chennai! It was basically one-way traffic throughout the encounter. Earlier, Chennai dominated with the ball in hand, and then their batters undoubtedly outclassed the opposition to collect two valuable points. Hyderabad's bad run continues against the Men in Yellow, as they are only able to extend their losing streak against Chennai away from home.
