Right then, that wraps up a double-header Sunday. Earlier in Hyderabad, we witnessed an absolute run-fest, with a staggering match aggregate of 528 runs, where Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious. Then, in Chennai, the El Clasico saw Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra build on the bowlers' efforts to guide the Chennai Super Kings to a winning start. The action in the 2025 IPL rolls into a new week on Monday, 24th March, as Delhi Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as always, you can join us early for the build-up. See you then. Cheers!
Noor Ahmad of CSK is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his outstanding bowling figures of 4-0-18-4. He collects the award from one of the dignitaries and comes up for a quick chat. On how it feels to play CSK, he says he is pleased to be a part of this team and to put on a good performance. On which wicket did he enjoy the most, he mentions about that the stumping of Suryakumar Yadav and also says it was a special stumping from MS Dhoni. Feels great to have someone like him behind the wickets. Says his focus is to land the ball in the right area.
The captain of Chennai Super Kings, Ruturaj Gaikwad says that right after he got out, he felt the game could go either way, but he is happy to be on the winning side. Tells that as a unit, they would have liked to be more clinical in their chase. Credits the spinners for being right on point and since the auction, he was excited to see Noor Ahmad, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin bowling in tandem at Chepauk. Praises Khaleel Ahmed for his consistency in the IPL over the last two seasons and highlights Noor Ahmad as the X-factor. As for MS Dhoni, he insists the legend remains the same, only fitter this year and clearing even more sixes in the nets.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Rachin Ravindra is also in for a chat. He says that Mumbai Indians made it difficult for them, choking them with clever changes of pace and making full use of a tricky Chepauk surface. Mentions that Chepauk can be unpredictable at times, and you never quite know what to expect. Tells that Ruturaj Gaikwad showcased great batsmanship to anchor the chase. When asked about the knock he took on the head earlier in the year in Pakistan, he replies that it was a freak accident and has recovered well from that blow. Shares that the pitch held up just a fraction and the lengths bowled by MI made life even more difficult.
The stand-in captain of Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav is in for a chat. He begins by saying that they fell short by 15-20 runs. Acknowledges the fight put on by the bowlers. On Vignesh Puthur, he says Puthur has a bright future ahead for the way he bowled with all heart. On not bowling out Puthur earlier, he says he kept his last over for the 17th or the 18th over, but admits it was a no-brainer to keep his over for that long. On the dew factor, he says there was not much dew, but it was still on the stickier side. Appreciates Ruturaj Gaikwad for the way he batted.
Earlier, the toss fell Ruturaj Gaikwad's way, and CSK opted to bowl first. Mumbai Indians’ innings never really took off, with Khaleel Ahmed inflicting early damage before the spinners took control, as expected. Noor Ahmad weaved his magic through the middle overs and ended with 4 wickets to his name. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav stitched together a partnership of some substance, but Mumbai struggled for momentum on either side of their stand. Towards the back end, a quickfire 15-ball 28 from Deepak Chahar helped MI reach 155.
Given CSK's strong start, the required run rate remained manageable. All they needed was a composed presence in the middle, and they found that in Rachin, who, unlike others, didn’t throw his wicket away with rash shot selection. He found an able partner in Ravindra Jadeja. Rachin ensured that he saw it through and took the home side over the line with an unbeaten 65-run knock.
CSK lost Rahul Tripathi early, but Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra steadied the ship and got the chase on track. Gaikwad took the aggressive route, capitalizing on Mumbai Indians' inconsistent bowling, while Ravindra played the perfect supporting role at the other end. Making his IPL debut, left-arm wrist spinner Vignesh Puthur kept MI in the contest with three crucial strikes in successive overs.
Chennai Super Kings get their campaign off to a winning start! They would have wanted to finish the chase with fewer hiccups, but in the end, a win is a win and they will be pleased to have their first points. As for Mumbai Indians, their streak of not winning an opening game since 2012 continues, but they can take heart from the fight they showed in dragging the game to the final over.

SIX! RACHIN RAVINDRA FINISHES OFF IN STYLE! Chennai Super Kings win their season opener by 4 wickets! Santner drops it on a good length, pitching around off and turning into middle, Rachin Ravindra judges the length quickly, rocks back in the crease and pulls it aerially over deep mid-wicket for a cracking six.
Right then, we are going to the final over with CSK needing 4 runs. Mitchell Santner (2-0-18-0) has been given the ball.

Naman Dhir To Ravindra Jadeja OUT!
OUT! RUN OUT! A needless mix-up in the middle and Jadeja departs. Back of a length, on the pads, Jadeja tucks across off the back foot to the square leg region and looks for a single. Is through for one, but Rachin Ravindra at the other end, turns back to deny the single. However, Jadeja puts the skates on and rushes to the other end, ball-watching. Soon realises as the fielder, Deepak Chahar, throws to the keeper and Rickelton whips the bails off. The umpires request Jadeja to stay as they want to check whether he crossed Rachin in the process to get to the other end. But, after a few checks it is deemed that Jadeja is out.
A big mix-up results in a wicket, but the Chepauk crowd erupts nonetheless, sensing what’s coming next. The third umpire is just checking which one of the two batters is to be adjudged out here. It is confirmed that Jadeja had not crossed Rachin Ravindra and the Indian all-rounder will be given out.

SIX! FIFTY FOR RACHIN RAVINDRA! An inning of composure from the Kiwi southpaw! Had to work hard for it, but held his ground! The crowd applauds him. Hard length, around off, Jadeja leans back and cuts it to deep backward point for a single. Jadeja is looking for the second and is halfway through, but Rachin sends him back and Jadeja is still stranded halfway on the pitch.
