The weekend is here! With that, Day 7 is a wrap in the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup. Friday began with Zimbabwe stunning Australia in Colombo, followed by a close contest between Canada and the United Arab Emirates, triumphed by the UAE before a USA special at Chepauk in the evening. Saturday, 14th February, 2026, brings us another triple header and possibly our first Super 8 contestant. Ireland and Oman kick things off in Colombo, at the SSC, from 5.30 am GMT, followed by the clash of the neighbours in England and Scotland at the Eden Gardens at 9.30 am GMT. But the final game of the day is a blockbuster - New Zealand taking on South Africa in Ahmedabad, from 1.30 pm GMT. The winner of that clash is sure to go through to the next round. The timings mentioned are the ones when the first ball is about to be bowled. But as always, our buildup will begin well in advance. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Live to fight another day - And just like that, the USA jump to third spot in the table, above the Netherlands, owing to a superior net run rate. They play Namibia in their final league game, here only, in Chennai, on Sunday, 15th February, 2026, in an afternoon game (9.30 am GMT). The Dutch might have lost a golden opportunity to put pressure either on India or Pakistan had they won this match. They get a bit of a break and meet India next on Wednesday, 18th February, 2026, in an evening game (1.30 pm GMT) in Ahmedabad. Both, USA and Netherlands have to win their remaining games and hope that the loser of the India-Pakistan clash on Sunday, lose their last game as well.
We showed what we could do - The victorious skipper of USA, MONANK PATEL, has a big smile on his face. Says that he is really happy with the way his side played in the match. Explains that losing the toss and batting first wasn't easy. Details that the ball was gripping but the top four batters played with intent and responsibility, showing their grittiness. On whether they had a deliberate ploy to attack the Netherlands, Monank says that initially, the openers wanted to check how the pitch was behaving. Adds that as soon as they got settled, they made sure that they punished the bad balls and showed their intent very well. Patel goes onto say that the USA had done well in the warmup games against India 'A' and New Zealand but missed out showing intent in their first two league games. However, he stresses that there were a lot of learnings from those losses. On his message to the batters while batting, the skipper says that after Shayan Jahangir got out, he sent out a message to his team that it was a 170-pitch and if the bowlers bowl well, they could restrict the Dutch. On Saiteja Mukkamalla, MP calls him an incredible talent for the USA. Details that the way he has batted for the last 2 years, it seems like he has been batting for around 10 years. Stresses that the management wanted someone from the top 3 to bat through and Sai did it in this match. On Harmeet Singh, Monank Patel says that it was a very simple plan for him. Explains that as soon as the left-arm spinner saw the ball gripping in the first innings, he used his experience and varied his pace to get the batters out, calling him brilliant.
It was a quality pitch - The captain of Netherlands, SCOTT EDWARDS, admits that USA got more than what his side was were hoping for. However, does not want to fault his bowling group as he believes that it was sensational in the first 2 games. Agrees that his bowlers missed their mark a few times in this match and the USA punished them. On the quality of the pitch, Edwards is humble enough to say that it was a quality pitch and it was his own batters who never really got going with the bat, losing wickets. Calls it pretty disappointing. On being asked to delve about their struggles, Scott says that when the required rate gets upto 11 or 12, it climbs up pretty quickly and then, it becomes very difficult to keep track. The skipper adds that after losing wickets, his batters were never able to get back on track and keep up with the required rate. On the team debrief plans, SE informs that the squad will be travelling on Saturday. So they will reach their destination, have a bit of a team meeting, take a day off and then come back for their final game.
Player Of The Match - For his wonderful bowling spell of 4-0-21-4, USA's HARMEET SINGH has been adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. On being asked about his performance, Harmeet says that when he first saw the wicket in the first innings, the ball was holding quite a bit even when he went in to bat. So, he adds that the plan was to hold the ball and he did not change his plan much. On a chat with his spin partners, Singh agrees and says that they had a chat in the innings break, that there is spin available, so if they look to spin the ball, they can get wickets. On the cushion of a big score, HS gratefully says that it is the batters who deserve this award. Praises Saiteja Mukkamalla for the way he started the game and then, Shubham Ranjane, for the way he finished. On his performance, he says that he is just happy to contribute. On the possibility of making it to the next stage with a big win over Namibia in their last match, HS says that a lot of funny things can happen in cricket. So the USA have their hopes alive but quickly adds that they can only do things which are under their control. Harmeet Singh ends by saying that in the first two games as well, the USA players tried their best, but could not execute their plans. However, in this game, they showed what they can do and will look to be more consistent.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Crucial toss? Did the toss play a role in the Dutch defeat? Well, we might say that now. But at the toss, at the pitch report, not many felt that way. Dew was expected and dew did come, but not in the amount that people expected. Maybe, the Netherlands felt that they could chase something between 170-180. However, irrespective of USA's attack, leave aside those last 5-6 overs and one would believe that the Dutch did not bowl that well. Netherlands were inconsistent with their lines and lengths while the United States concentrated on building stands. They batted around Saiteja Mukkamalla who shone with a fine 79, but despite the platform set, could not build on it, losing their way at the death, although, it eventually turned out to be enough. Please stay tuned for the presentation.
The spinning trio - As mentioned before, spinners ruled the roost for the USA. Nosthush Kenjige set the tone in his first over and those who have seen him and Harmeet Singh play in the franchise leagues, they bowl as if they are bowling on a string, landing the ball on the same line and length time and again. The duo kept the pressure on the Dutch and then, found another able ally in Mohammad Mohsin, who scalped 2 of his own. The ball was turning a bit but it was more because of the low bounce that Netherlands were like a cat in front of a car's headlights.
9/62 in 66 balls! 197 was a big target but looking at the first innings, it seemed like a big run fest was in order. However, the first ball of the second over set the tone for a shocker in the night. Michael Levitt rocked back to pull what seemed like a short ball. To Levitt's dismay, the ball skid through, went beneath the bat and boom - hit the stumps. After that, there was a bit of a partnership between Max O'Dowd and Bas de Leede which read 32. However, once that was broken, the floodgates opened. 41/1 became 103 all out pretty quickly.
The art of spin bowling - For years now, we have known that Chepauk has been a spinner's paradise. But such a vast difference across innings? When Netherlands were bowling, their spinners' combined bowling figures read 5-0-60-0. Come the run chase, the combined bowling figures of the USA spinners read - 10-0-60-7! That's why, getting a spinning track is not enough. You need to know how to bowl on such tracks as well and the Americans were simply fantastic.
Try and try till you succeed - 2022, Bulawayo - Lost by 7 wickets. 2024, Utrecht - Lost by 102 runs. 2024, The Hague - lost by 4 runs. Come the 4th meeting, the USA have finally triumphed over the Dutch! We felt that the pitch would be a beauty. It turned out to be a beauty. But only for one innings. In the second innings, despite some dew on offer, the USA bowlers controlled their lines and lengths beautifully and blew Netherlands away!
