Right then, that is it from this thrilling first Test match. South Africa booked their spot in the WTC final while Pakistan made them work really hard for it. The hosts will now look to seal the series in the next one while the Men in Green will want to build on this performance and go that extra mile to finish on level terms. The 2nd Test will start on January 3, 2025, at 8.30 am GMT, but as you know, you can always join us early for all the build-up to the match. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Temba Bavuma, the victorious skipper of South Africa says that it is a bit of an emotional moment for him. Adds that he is proud of his team and they did it the hard way but is happy with the win. Mentions that there was not much of a conversation during the Lunch but Markram led the way in the dressing room. Says that he was still sulking in the toilet about his dismissal but they had belief in the team and KG and Jansen did the job for them. Says that looking at the way they started their campaign against strong teams like India and New Zealand, they have come a long way. Tells that he is unaware of the fact that he did not edge it on his dismissal. Ends by saying that they will enjoy this moment and then focus on the next game.
Shan Masood, the captain of Pakistan says that he is extremely proud of his team and wants to be more ruthless in the future. He thought he could have won this match where the team was fighting brilliantly like a full group. Adds that a lot of things were pointed out in the starting like losing wickets in the cluster, and then they couldn’t capitalize on those partnerships to make it big. Mentions that he believes in learning and wants to over the line. He considers Test cricket to be the best because it tests you a lot in all forms. Tells Saud Shakeel missed out on a hundred, but he batted brilliantly throughout the innings and will hope to do so in the next one also. Concludes that Mohammad Abbas is a brilliant bowler who keeps tight lines and lengths. His performance is noteworthy, as he was making a comeback.
Aiden Markram is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his batting performance in both innings. Starts by saying that he is pretty relieved now but those moments were tense. Adds that it feels good to make it into the finals of the WTC as a team. Mentions that it is really special and today was a really important day for the team. Further mentions that he would have loved to take South Africa home, but unfortunately, that didn't happen. Says that he would love to be more clinical in his approach and executions. Talking about milestones he said that he will never be the one to break records so he looks to do the job for the team and take the team over the line. Mentions that, playing here over the years have helped him get through the difficult phases of the match. The wicket was tricky and uneven but in the end it was nice to get over the line.
Presentation Time...
Day 4 began with tension and drama as Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma added 35 runs with a cautious approach before Mohammad Abbas broke through, dismissing Markram for 37. Bavuma and David Bedingham counterattacked, reducing the target further, but Abbas struck again to remove Bavuma on 40, leaving Pakistan back in the hunt. What followed was a stunning collapse as South Africa crumbled from 96/5 to 99/8, with Abbas delivering a masterclass, claiming four wickets in a relentless spell. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen added a few crucial boundaries late in the session, leaving just 32 runs to win and setting up a grand finale! The duo made sure they did not suffer any more hiccups and sealed the win with a 51-run stand for the ninth wicket.
It was a riveting Day 3! Despite rain delays, the match delivered nonstop drama as Pakistan fought hard to set a tricky target and their bowlers struck early to leave South Africa at 27/3, still needing 121 runs. Marco Jansen was sensational, ripping through Pakistan's lineup with a brilliant six-wicket haul, but not before Saud Shakeel’s gritty 84 and Babar Azam’s composed fifty helped stretch the lead to 148. The chase began under pressure, with Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad bowling fiery spells to remove Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs. Markram’s resolve kept South Africa alive, but with the pitch offering plenty for the pacers, Day 4 promised a nail-biting finish!
Day 2 was a rollercoaster of emotions as South Africa tightened their grip before Pakistan fought back late. Aiden Markram led the charge with a classy 89, sharing key stands with Temba Bavuma and the tail. Corbin Bosch stole the show with a sensational unbeaten 81, powering South Africa to a vital 90-run lead. Pakistan began their reply with purpose, but Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen struck crucial blows to leave them wobbling. Babar Azam survived nervy moments while Saud Shakeel showcased resilience as the pair reduced the deficit to just 2 runs before bad light brought an end to a thrilling day!
An action-packed Day 1 of this Boxing Day Test saw Pakistan and South Africa trading blows in an enthralling contest! Asked to bat first, Pakistan’s openers started strong, but debutant Corbin Bosch turned the tide, sparking a collapse from 36/0 to 56/4. Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam counterattacked with a gritty 81-run stand, with Ghulam scoring a gutsy fifty. Late contributions from Salman Agha and Aamer Jamal, along with the last-wicket pair, pushed Pakistan past 200. Dane Paterson was sensational with a fifer, while Bosch shone with four wickets. In reply, South Africa wobbled early, losing Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton to Khurram Shahzad, but Aiden Markram’s fluent 47 and Temba Bavuma’s steadiness ensured no further damage. The Proteas ended the day on top, setting the stage for an exciting Day 2!
The second session on Day 4 began with South Africa needing just 32 runs to clinch victory but only two wickets in hand. Enter Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, who turned the game on its head with an aggressive, fearless approach! Their decision to go on the attack paid off brilliantly. In a surprising move, Shan Masood handed the ball to Aamer Jamal for an over, but it backfired spectacularly as 11 runs were plundered, tipping the scales in South Africa's favor. Rabada stood tall with a match-winning unbeaten 31 off 26 balls, while Jansen, cool as ever, scored 16 off 24 and smashed the winning runs.
SOUTH AFRICA MARCH INTO THE WORLD TEST CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL! Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen rise to the occasion and steer the Rainbow Nation to a thrilling 2-wicket victory. What a nail-biter at SuperSport Park in Centurion! This Test had it all – drama, tension, and unforgettable moments. Hats off to Mohammad Abbas for his incredible spell of 6 for 54 that almost turned the tide, but the Proteas held their nerve to seal the deal. What a game!

... DAY 4, SESSION 2 ...
Pakistan and South Africa find themselves locked in a tense battle at Lunch on Day 4 of the first Test match. South Africa are currently at 116/8 after 34 overs, needing just 32 more runs to win, while Pakistan requires two wickets to seal victory. This finely balanced situation sets the stage for an enthralling post-Lunch session, where every ball will count and tensions will be at their peak. Will South Africa manage to scrape through to victory, or will Pakistan’s bowlers deliver the final blow? Join us at 10.55 am GMT for what promises to be a thrilling continuation of this gripping Test match.
Mohammad Abbas was the standout performer for Pakistan, claiming a five-wicket haul and now boasting six wickets in the match. His precision and consistency made him the driving force behind dismantling the South African batting lineup, making him the key architect of Pakistan’s success so far in this critical session.
Despite the disciplined start by South Africa, the Pakistani bowlers worked relentlessly, though without early success. Their persistence paid off when Aiden Markram fell for a well-made 37, which triggered a collapse. Pakistan capitalized on the breakthrough, claiming five wickets in the second hour and a half of the session. Temba Bavuma fought valiantly, playing a captain’s knock under challenging conditions, but his resistance ended disappointingly when he did not review his dismissal. Playing despite an injury and relying on medication, Bavuma will likely regret missing the chance to secure a victory for his team and strengthen their bid for a spot in the World Test Championship final.
SESSION SUMMARY - 89 runs and 5 wickets in 25 overs! Pakistan will be the happier side at lunch on Day 4, having taken five crucial South Africa wickets during this extended session. The hosts resumed their innings at an overnight score of 27/3 after 9 overs, with Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma out in the middle. The pair batted cautiously in the first hour, leaving wide deliveries and playing defensively to guard their stumps. Their approach demonstrated patience and skill, as they aimed to stabilize the innings.

Mohammad Abbas To Aiden Markram OUT!
OUT! BOWLED! Mohammad Abbas strikes! There is that elusive wicket of Aiden Markram. Once again, a break in play brings a wicket for the fielding side. This one is bowled from wide outside the crease, pitches it full and just outside off stump, nips in slightly, and keeps very low. Aiden Markram is caught inside his crease, fails to get his bat down in time, and plays down the wrong line as well. The ball goes through and shatters the stumps. Markram walks back after a gritty 37 off 63, and South Africa still requires 86 runs more.

Drinks! Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma have weathered the storm nicely in the first hour of play. They haven't been agressive but have knocked off 35 runs so far and are looking solid out there. Pakistan have tried many different things and have bowled well too but they don't have anything to show for it. Just one big chance that Naseem Shah wasn't able to hold on. Maybe this break will help them come out with the goods. Let's see how things pan out.

Massive appeal from just the bowler but the keeper Mohammad Rizwan is not convinced enough to go up. The captain has a chat with the bowler and they decide to send this one up. The front on view shows that the ball misses the outside edge and goes on to brush the back thigh guard of Bavuma. The umpire does not bother to look up Ball Tracking as he thinks the ball hits the batter high up. And that is that for it. Pakistan lose a review.

All in readiness to start the proceedings on Day 4 of this enthralling test! South Africa will come out to chase the final target of 148 runs with the late-night score of 27/3 after 9 overs. Temba Bavuma, skipper, and Aiden Markram are the overnight batters for SA. For Pakistan, Mohammad Abbas will start with the first ball for today. Let's play...
With the match finely poised, the first session of Day 4 will be pivotal in deciding the outcome. Both teams are determined to seize the initiative, and the battle for supremacy will undoubtedly continue to provide thrilling moments. As the players take to the field, the Centurion crowd can expect an exciting day of Test cricket, with both teams knowing the significance of every ball bowled and every run scored.
South Africa’s chances heavily rely on the performance of Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma, the team's captain and mainstay in the middle order. Bavuma and Markram have been some of South Africa’s most consistent batters in recent years and will need to step up once again to guide their team through this tricky phase. Aiden Markram has the ability to anchor the innings and has shown his mettle under pressure, but he will need support from the lower order to get the hosts over the line. The next few hours will be critical in determining whether South Africa can complete a successful chase or if Pakistan can claim a famous win in Centurion.
Pakistan’s bowlers, particularly the seamers, have shown great discipline and skill, reducing the hosts to a precarious position. The likes of Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas will be eyeing further breakthroughs as they look to capitalize on South Africa's vulnerabilities. Their disciplined approach throughout the match has kept them firmly in the contest, and with the weather conditions on their side, the visitors will be confident they can defend the target.
Hello and a warm welcome folks! As Day 4 of the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan unfolds, the match remains delicately poised with everything to play for. South Africa will resume their chase of 148 runs, having ended Day 3 at 27 for 3, still needing 121 more runs to secure victory. Some tight bowling from Pakistan has exposed their top order, and the pressure is on as they try to mount a successful run chase and book a place in the WTC final.
... DAY 4, SESSION 1 ...
Right then, that is it from a scintillating Day 3 or this first Test. For the first time, we can say that South Africa do not have that slight advantage anymore as Pakistan have roared back in this contest and it is nicely poised. With how the game stands at the moment, unless the weather plays a big part, we will not be going to the final day. Day 4 will start at 8 am GMT, but you can join us early for all the build-up. Cheers!
Saud Shakeel fought valiantly with a brilliant 84, shepherding the tail to stretch Pakistan's lead close to 150 in a gritty final session. The target, though modest, promised drama on a spicy surface favoring the pacers. South Africa’s chase began shakily as Tony de Zorzi and Ryan Rickelton fell early, leaving the hosts wobbling. Aiden Markram stood firm amidst the chaos, showing immense grit, but Tristan Stubbs’ late dismissal added to the tension. Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shahzad were fantastic with the ball and will come out again with more belief that they can defend this target. With bad light ending play, the stage is set for an electrifying finish on Day 4 in this thrilling contest.
Marco Jansen delivered a masterclass in the second session, ripping through Pakistan's batting lineup and leaving them teetering at 212/8. After a rain-hit morning and a delayed start, hopes were high as Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel crafted brilliant fifties to steady the innings. But Babar’s dismissal at 50 opened the floodgates, triggering a collapse from 153/3 to 176/6. Poor shot selection from Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha compounded Pakistan’s woes, while a late fight from Shakeel and Aamer Jamal offered a flicker of resistance.
THAT WILL BE STUMPS ON DAY 3 DUE TO BAD LIGHT! Session Summary - 52 runs and 5 wickets in 16.4 overs! What an emphatic day of Test cricket! Despite losing the entire first session, most of the second session, and a few overs in the third session as well, this game has not failed to deliver. Pakistan batted with determination and grit to set up a decent target on this track, and then their bowlers backed it up with some fine spells. South Africa would have liked to be a in better position, but they ended the day on 27/3, needing another 121 runs to win.
The conditions are pretty gloomy out here! We can see the umpires taking a reading with the light meter. It looks like it is not safe for the pacers to bowl, so they ask Shan Masood whether he wants to continue with a spinner. The answer is a firm 'NO' and the players are making their way out of the ground now shaking hands with each other.

Aiden Markram holds the key for them, while the others also need to support him. Pakistan are on top at the moment with Mohammad Abbas breathing fire and Khurram Shahzad also getting the ball to talk. They know a wicket or two, and they will enter Day 4 with full control. OUT! LBW! Mohammad Abbas strikes again! Another fine review from Pakistan. Goes fuller this time and changes the line to stumps around off and middle, nips away a shy bit. Tristan Stubbs looks to defend it with the full face of the bat from the front foot but gets beaten on the outside edge and wears it on the pads. Abbas and every other Pakistani player appeal for LBW but the umpire isn't convinced enough to raise the finger! Shan Masood has gone upstairs after asking from the slip fielders and keeper. UltraEdge confirms no bat involved and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds much to the delight of the visitors. Tristan Stubbs has to depart now.
