205/5 (20.0/20)
194/9 (20.0/20)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru beat Rajasthan Royals by 11 runs
Right then, Royal Challengers Bengaluru are up and running at home and they now become the third team to get to 12 points, joining GT and DC, who are above them due to a superior Net Run Rate. Next up, it is a clash for survival in IPL 2025 as Chennai Super Kings welcome Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial four-pointer that could send one team into almost certain elimination and the winning side can stay afloat and still have an outside chance of making the top four. That game will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, 25 April and will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). You can join us a lot sooner for the build-up as well. Cheers!
Josh Hazlewood is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his match-winning spell of bowling. He says that he tried to stick to his strengths and was mixing it up with the odd yorker or the slower ball. Adds that he is thankful for the opportunity to be able to play T20 cricket and all the different franchises he has played for have helped him become a better T20 bowler. Mentions that a key factor for them is to get information shared quickly and they bowl well as a unit. Mentions that the bounce has been pretty steep at the venue and to have put on that score was a very positive thing.
Rajat Patidar, the victorious captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, says it was a much-needed win and credits the bowlers for the way they showed courage and came back after 10 overs. Appreciates the way RR batted and says they knew wickets were the only way to stop them. Says he backs his instincts, and having a few leaders in the side also helps.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Riyan Parag won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. This meant that RCB had to bat first at home for the fourth time running and having lost three times prior, they knew that they needed big runs on the board. After Phil Salt fell, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal went on a bit of a rampage with a solid 95-run stand. Rajasthan did well to make a bit of a comeback but Tim David and Jitesh Sharma ensured that RCB got over the 200-run mark.
Virat Kohli, RCB's top scorer of the game, is down for a chat. Kohli says that they are pretty happy as they had three pretty average games at home prior to that. Reckons that the pitch wasn't as flat as the scores tell and gives credit to the way Rajasthan played but is happy that they were able to claw back and get two crucial points. Has a bit of a chuckle and says that you need to win the toss here, as dew does come in the second innings. Adds that people like him and Devdutt, who know this pitch well, need to let someone like Salt play his natural game and try to anchor the innings. Adds that there is extra pace and bounce in the initial overs here and the plan was to assess the pitch first and then look for boundary balls. Ends by saying that 205 seemed enough at the halfway but now they realize that having a cushion of 20-30 runs is crucial and says that this is the best place to play cricket in the IPL as they have the best fans.
Riyan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, says they did really well with the ball and felt it was a 210-run wicket and with the chase they were right in it, but says they should have executed the batting better. Adds that the onus of the freedom given to them by the support staff is on them to go out and take responsibility. Mentions that they spoke about situations like this but just couldn't execute again. Concludes that they will play for pride and play well for all the support they have been shown and the hard work that has gone behind the team.
They say lightning never strikes the same spot twice, but it has struck a third time here for Rajasthan Royals and they lose yet another humdinger of a contest. This loss could also be the one that seals their fate in terms of missing out on a playoff berth. RR were cruising with 100 runs on the board after just 8 overs. They just lost their way in the middle phase when the spinners were bowling and then they got back with a couple of big overs. Needing 17 off the final two overs and still a few wickets in hand, they simply folded. The two openers laid a good platform with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 49 and then Dhruv Jurel led the fightback in the latter half of the innings but his wicket in the 19th over was the telling difference.
Clutch is the word that can be used here for RCB as they really have pulled off a fascinating victory. They had the runs on the board but were under immense pressure from the RR batters in the Powerplay and even after that, conceding 110 runs in 9 overs. After that, the tides turned and the wickets started to come. Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya bowled in tandem and RCB started to get in front. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar conceded 22 runs in the 18th over and gave RR a big sniff, but Josh Hazlewood followed it up with a couple of wickets and just one run in the 19th over and that was more than good enough for the home side.
They have only gone and done it! Royal Challengers Bengaluru have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and have finally broken the duck at home as the Chinnaswamy erupts in joy. Spare a thought for RR, though, who simply cannot manufacture a win from anywhere at the moment, it seems.

Yash Dayal To Wanindu Hasaranga OUT!
OUT! RUN OUT! Superb effort from Jitesh Sharma to execute this runout! Full and on middle, Wanindu Hasaranga knocks it to long off and calls for the second. Is way too slow on the sprint back and Tim David fires the throw, a bit wayward to the keeper. Jitesh Sharma moves across to his left, collects the ball and has to fling himself with an outstretched right hand to knock the bails and Wanindu Hasaranga is still caught short of the crease by a few inches.

Yash Dayal To Shubham Dubey OUT!
OUT! TAKEN! That should be the final nail in the coffin! Rajasthan Royals have butchered this chase and are on the brink of losing it. A full toss, on middle, Shubham Dubey could have hit it anywhere but he swings across and picks up Phil Salt at deep mid-wicket.
17 needed off the final over. Yash Dayal to bowl it? Or will we see Romario Shepherd? It should be Dayal and it is him. Can he keep his cool and see his side home? Or will there be flashbacks from a couple of seasons ago? Let's find out...

Josh Hazlewood To Jofra Archer OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! A golden duck for Jofra Archer and Josh Hazlewood has pulled this game back and how! Rajasthan Royals are losing the plot, AGAIN! He bangs the surface and bowls it on a hard length, over off, Jofra Archer stays put and throws his bat at it, in an attempt to slice it over the infield on the off side. The ball skids through quicker and takes the upper half of the bat. Lobs straight to Rajat Patidar at cover who takes a dolly. Josh Hazlewood on a Hat Trick!
Jofra Archer walks out to bat now.

W
Josh Hazlewood To Dhruv Jurel OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! What a use of a review for RCB! This could be just what they needed to make a comeback into this game! Josh Hazlewood sees the batter back away and fires it very full and outside off, Dhruv Jurel cannot reach for it and misses to make any connection and the keeper takes it low to his right. There is not much of an appeal but RCB decide to challenge it and send it upstairs for a check. The UltraEdge loads up, and there is a spike as the ball passes the back of the bat. A huge roar across the stadium and the onfield call of NOT OUT is overturned to OUT!

The throw is fired at the keeper and Shimron Hetmyer has to put in a dive to make it in. 12 runs off this over and Rajasthan Royals need 45 more runs off 24 balls.
Is that out? A very risky second run attempted by Shimron Hetmyer and the throw from Phil Salt comes in at the keeper's end. Jitesh Sharma whips off the bails as Hetmyer dives in. It is sent upstairs and replays quickly show that Hetmyer was well in. NOT OUT!

Pushed through quick and a bit full around off, sliding on, Jurel presses back and punches it to covers.
Strategic Break! With 66 runs needed off 36 balls, this contest is perfectly poised for a thrilling finish! Rajasthan Royals have done the hard yards to build a solid platform in this chase, but a couple of quick wickets have thrown a bit of a curveball into the mix. There's still firepower left in the tank for RR, and on a surface like this, chasing down this remaining target is well within reach if they keep their nerves. But credit to RCB - they’ve pulled things back brilliantly in the last few overs, tightening lines and building pressure. One more wicket here, and the momentum could swing hard in RCB’s favour. It's all about handling the pressure from here on. Seems like we’re in for a nail-biting finish.

Krunal Pandya To Riyan Parag OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Krunal Pandya makes a big impact on his very first ball and delivers a big blow to RR! Floats it up, nice and full, on middle and Riyan Parag is pre-determined to take on the bowler. Sits on a knee to slog sweep, but the ball turn away a bit and he only manages to get a top edge that goes straight up. Jitesh Sharma calls for the catch, keeps his eyes locked in and takes a good catch to the right of the pitch.
Halt! There is a bit of a delay and the umpire seems to be in conversation with someone on the walkie-talkie. It seems like there was an incident in the last ball of the previous over. Replays show that Suyash Sharma picked up the ball with his cap. Thankfully for him, the ball was dead, otherwise that could have been 5 penalty runs. Anyway, Krunal Pandya is finally given the green light to start his spell.

Yash Dayal To Riyan Parag
Angling across, on a back of a length, outside off, Riyan Parag dabs it to deep cover for one.
Strategic Break! This has been a frenetic chase so far and Rajasthan Royals have gone hard at the RCB bowlers throughout the first 8 overs. It hasn't always been pretty hitting but RR are well above the required rate and have wickets in hand as well. The RCB bowlers have been a bit unlucky with quite a few edges going to the fence but they need to pick up wickets, or else, this game could be over before they know it.
